If you had to pick the most boring companion, who would be a strong contender?This doesn't necessarily mean the most annoying companion (ie Melanie Bush) but someone who just doesn't excite you when they appear on screen.

Nyssa is perhaps one companion who fails to set the world alight, Not helped by drab costume colours and competing for attention against the far feistier Tegan, there is something about her that is just rather bland.

I think you could have easily cut her out of the Davison era and the dynamic between Davison, Adric and Tegan would have been pretty much the same.

Or possibly Victoria, who does not have enough gravitas to compel the viewer to care. She rarely comes to mind when one thinks of a great companion.

Adric. He never really engages the viewer's interest.

For new who I found Martha boring.

What was that guy not the brainy one adric I think. The ginger one. He was so boring I can't even remember his name.

FAR from being my least favourite, but the one who came to mind - she wasn't bad, she wasn't good, she was just... there, with her weird flat delivery and her sheer lack of charisma.

I don't get the boring thing with Nyssa at all. Poor girl was just swamped by whining Adric and screechy Tegan. I always found her calmness refreshing amidst a sea of angst, teeth gnashing and 'you promised to take me to Heathrow/you never pay me attention any more. ' And she's amazing in Big Finish!

I suppose if I had to pick one then it's going to be Victoria.

From the old days, I would say :-

Victoria (in Dr 2): Bit of a boring screamer!
Liz Shaw (in Dr 3): Boring scientist...not the ideal Doctor's companion, even though she wore a mini-skirt!
Romana I (Dr 4): As above ^, she was too bossy and intelligent for the Doctor! Very pretty though!
Adric (Dr 5): What can one say? Hands-in-pockets acting!!
Nyssa (Dr 5): Lovely girl - but totally bland! She got a personality in the last two stories....too late!
Turlough: (Dr 5): oh dear - Peter D isn't doing well here is he? Turlough just seemed to be a spare part to me. He became his own in his final story wearing those speedoes!!
Ace (Dr 7): Yes REALLY! Boring acting, sounded forced to me! Love Sophie Aldred in interviews etc and commentaries on DVD's though

NU WHO.......
Amy Pond (Dr 11): Not so much as boring but IRRITATING!! And not through her fault (blame the writers) She was constantly dragged through that 'timey-wimey' crap and killed and not killed alongside her lovely boyfriend Rory!
THAT was the boring bit!!!

The most apathetic, pointless character in the show's history.

Rose is the tedious one unlike Nyssa etc
she is one of the many reasons O don't like or enjoy nu-who
I liked Nyssa, Mel etc

Adam Mitchel and Rose's family are boring.
Jack, Amy and Adam are irritating and worst companions.

I never liked Vicki or Dodo. They just felt like pointless Susan replacements.

I think Vicki is one of the most boring companions ever. Her dialogue at times was so dull! And Dodo wasn't much better!

Mel is also a bore, and from new who Adam was is boring too. At least Adric was entertaining by the very fact he was annoying.

And Nyssa I find pleasant and likeable. The argumentativeness of Adric and Tegan made the nice side of her nature stand out more.

Amy Pond. She was so boring.

I don't know why but I feel like I'm going to get eaten alive for this.

I find Rory to be really, really boring. I mean he's played by a brilliant actor, and he certainly has his moments as well as some perfect one-liners, but he is just so often brushed over and given very little to do.

And while I wouldn't consider her boring per se, I don't think Clara has been a patch on her Victorian or Starship Alaska counterparts. Again, a brilliant actress being given very little to work with - I can see what they're trying to do with her, and I hope that now her mystery is done with that we get to see more of a person in her than a slab of companion that we got in 7B. These days, family life is also an important part of a companion's make-up in the show - if those annoying kids are around again in Series 8 then I know for a fact that Clara has definitely been short-changed... they were never going to compare with Camille Coduri or Bernard Cribbins... but they were just so annoying and unlikeable that it detracted from time we could have spent getting to know more about Clara herself.

Clara from the new series. Especially in 7b where she has a complete lack of any sort of character.

To be honest all the eighties companions were pretty awful, certainly when compared to their seventies predecessors.

But yes probaby Nyssa was the most boring, with Adric as the most irritating and Mel as the most likely to drive one to suicide in a state of existential despair.

Probably Dodo would have to get my vote. The fact that the producers didn't even bother to show her departure onscreen didn't help. Like her and Steven in 'The Gunfighters' though.

Dodo had her moments in The Savages also, as I recall. Hope that one is recovered someday; lovely musical score.

Martha she was just so annoying and piney i know it's not her fault but still does nothing for me.

I'll probably get shot down for this but having watched An Unearthly Child and The Daleks recently I found Susan to be so so irritating, especially when her voice goes up an octave or two. First time I'd seen them since first broadcast.
