Tonight at 8.30: "A slice of life - the story of the soaps".

"To coincide with the 20th anniversary of EastEnders and the 45th year of Corrie, Martin Kemp presents a full throttle history of Britihs soap opera.

"Offering insights are William Roache, Dean Sullivan, Claire Sweeney( ), Brian Capron and Tom Watt, plus producers Phil Redmond, Verity Lambert and Tony Wood."

It's on Radio 2, the first of two hour-long programmes Well, there's nothing much on tv tonight so although it will be strange to listen to the radio in the evneing, I'm going to give it a go

Why can't they put it on the tellybox? idiots.

Why wasn't Louise Berridge asked for her insights?

Claire Sweeney has to get her jaw into everything - she'd turn up for the opening of a crisp packet if there was hope of a camera snapping her!

Can you tell I don't like the girl....

I can't bear CS either, that awful squawking voice, don't understand how she's still got a 'career' .

Yeh it seems odd to have the history of a tv phenomenon on the radio doesn't it Will ... then again, the first UK soap was The Archers wasn't it?

Yep the Archers is still going strong. Pop to BBC Birmingham at the Mailbox and when there is no recording going on you can look through into the studio where it's made.

Oh right, but you'd think they'd have made a telly version as it is the two big soaps milestone birthdays this year.

They'll probably do it in 2010, when Corrie celebrates 50 years and EE, 25.

I mean 50 is a bigger milestone than 45 now isn't it...and if you think about it, generally 25 is a much bigger milestone than 20.

Martin Kemp is hosting it. Well he must be on a break from those sofa adverts

It's not too late to do that though is it? I would have thought they would do a tv documentary on Easties at least, even if it's only on bbc3 next week for the 20th anniversary? Or show some classic episodes for those of us who don't have UKGold For the 10th anniversary I remember them running a few weeks worth of eppys on bbc1 on weekday mornings - I remember they showed the one where Sue & Ali's baby died so that must have been from the first year I guess.
