I don't understand how doing this could be seen as career suicide for him.
I don't see how it has any bearing on how effective he is at doing his normal TV work.

I think Matthew Wright is playing a game. As a journalist, I think he is out to prove something and to say at the end that it was all an act. As I say, just my opinion.

I don't see how it would be either.

The show is the biggest thing on television in reality.

I don't either. He will be ribbed about it and he will take a ribbing, but he will still chair the topical discussions as before. He wouldn't he?

I think it's an act.

But i imagine, he will probably get ribbed, on his show when he returns, you can visage some of the guests on his show, taking the mickey, and will be interesting to see how he responds.

He is my worse celeb in the jungle so far, i thought he was gonna be a hard nosed journalist, but no.

At least he admiited and said, he isnt very manly”

He is more of a wimp than I thought, especially this early on! But I do agree with you.

I think Matthew would be more bothered by people thinking he was Jeremy Kyle rather than thinking him a wimp!

Matthew Wright is this years Helen Flanaghan.

Voting should be stopped now because he's gonna get mullered for the next couple of weeks.

Without a doubt. Who wouldn't?

I've never watched his TV programme but he looks a bit of a prat based on this so far. What the hell was he crying about? He's only just arrived at the holiday camp. You'd think he was in the Philippines and just lost everything. Tadger.

I've just seen a short clip of the eating task and Matthew looks OK - he was tucking into a pigs brain (on a bed of soft noodles) with relative ease. Joey looked as though he was going to vomit!

Wonder if John Leslie is watching

Yes, he is also encouraging Joey. Does seem like Matthew will attempt the trials which is good.

To be fair to Matthew his hands were really shaking as he tried to put the star together - that wasn't an act. He was also pretty shaken when he came out.

Do think that though that after being voted for two trials that person should be exempt as it gets so boring for the viewers.

Let everyone have a turn so we can see what guts they have got!

Matthew will definitely have a go at the trials (he won't just take one look and say no like Helen did) - I'm not saying he'll be any good at them. And yes - he was trying to encourage Joey. I've a feeling if both these make it to the time the two camps meet - Matthew and Joey will end up being mates.

His show isn't in any danger at all. It is regularly one of Channel 5's best performing shows in terms of audience share and is only beaten by BBC One and ITV.

It's lasted over a decade for a reason and they will continue to do more as long as he wants to continue doing it, and he loves doing the show. This is no doubt to increase his exposure and hopefully get more people tuning in.

He's one of the biggest personalities in there, so I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him in the coming days. Hopefully he does well, I've always liked Matthew and his programme.

oh please some people are so dramatic, hardly going to be career suicide for him

So what if he's a wimp, i'd like to see some of the people on here go in there. It's not an act as well, every one who knows him has said this is exactly how he is off camera. As long as he's himself and tries his best I will be supporting him.

I wish him well, he was the only person who I enjoyed watching last night, that Joey Essex is a right tit

I think he was genuinely petrified especially after dark circles formed around his eyes

I howled with laughter at him prancing around on the spot having not being selected by the red team

he's not going to be voted to do all the trials because he'll probably be exempt from some of them due to his back problem.

I really hope it isn't career suicide for him. I can only imagine that he's been pressured by tv execs to take part because he always slagged off reality contestants in the past. He was very down on Big Brother until it came to Five and he had to start being nice about it, which made him lose some credibility in my eyes.

I thought he might be faking it too, I will reserve judgement until he has completed a couple of tasks.

Yes I read in today's Mirror that he had an operation for a slipped disc in 2011, so any back injury could result in permanent disablity. So although he's bound to be targetted night after night for the trials, as the weakest contestant, the producers will have to exclude him from anything involving being strapped into a harness and dangling in mid-air.
