They both rose to fame in reality television shows and are the youngest campmates in this year's series, so it may come as no surprise that Joey Essex and Amy Willerton are already getting close.

The 21-year-old taught The Only Way Essex star how to tell the time during the first night in their I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! campsite, which aired on Sunday.

The blonde model is seen drawing a makeshift clock on the ground before explaining what the hour and minutes hands mean.

He's obviously pretending. He's pretended not to know the alphabet before, what countries are in the UK, how to spell primary school words and how to make toast before.

It's such an easy way of getting popularity. Just look bright eyed and dopey and say in a dumb voice "How do you tell the time?" and then laugh and pretend to be embarrassed about asking it so that everyone thinks you're adorable and "aww, bless him". Morons on Facebook love it. I've saw so many statuses saying "Joey Essex says he doesn't know ________ LMFAO what a legend!". It's so see through.

Helen was slated for playing the dumb card wonder if it will work the same for this knob?

Why is being thick and ignorant so celebrated in this country? It's not at all endearing being 22 or 23 years old and not being able to tell the time, something that most people have mastered by the age of about 6. It's pathetic.

Can someone remind me what century we are in. Can't read the time - no doubt he has one of those 'medical conditions'. The man must be a prat!

I think the digital clock and reliance on computers and telephones to tell the time has made some kids really not see the point in bothering with a traditional clock.

Personally I do think Joey is academically challenged - that is my view and I don't really want anyone to confrontate me on that.

Completely agree with both these posts. The rise of the thick celebrity is absolutely nothing to be admired, and it's embarrassing to see people actually embracing it.

Even if his parents didn't bother teaching him anything, he must have gone to school? This is a wind up.

Whilst some of it might be attention seeking, I don't think it all is. He does suffer from dyslexia. I know my cousin who has it was unable to tell the time properly until she was in her teens.

His sister had said how he struggled at school due to this, how he was embarrassed by it, had to repeat a year and pretty much failed all his exams. Then on top of all that his mum committed suicide when he was 10. I know I can't imagine what it would be like not having my mum at that age and I think education would probably have took a backseat for me too.

I'm not saying that this is an excuse but I guess in the midst of all that and the way now you have watches and phones that have it written out in number form it's not overly unbelievable.

Dyslexia would account for some of it.

She was 16/17 actually.

Although, she was taught how to read it so she knows now. She was later diagnosed with Dyslexia so that would have been a reason and Joey has dyslexia as well if I remember so it's not particularly to take the mick out of this.

That reminds me of Big Brother winner Brian Belo coming across as dim in the house e.g. claiming not to know who Shakespeare was and it later being revealed that he was a lot more intelligent than he'd made out. As he was apparently one of the people who devised a show which later became TOWIE, perhaps he passed on some tips to Joey and co!

There were teenagers in the lowest set Maths classes at my school who didn't know how to read a clock, digital or analog. This was a problem even when I was in year 11 and so concerned 15/16 year olds.

It's not that they were 'dumb', it's just that either emphasis wasn't put on it in school/at home when they were younger, or some people's brains don't have the cognition to comprehend some simple things. Also, as someone else said it could be dyslexia, so to make fun of that is rather cruel.

Although Joey's act could be put on, it could also not be. The only thing that matters in the jungle is his intent imo, and he seems like a nice guy who's a team player.

Tonight on itv2, the miss gb girl said she wouldn't rule out love in the jungle......ohhhjh come on.......her and Joey are so getting it on!

Not being able to tell the time is one of the first things that is looked for when making a dyslexia assessment. A lot more people than you'd imagine can't tell the time using an analogue clock but very few would admit to it as readily as Joey did (because they imagine they will be regarded as 'thick' which as many posts on here show, they probably would do).

As most younger people use their mobile phone to tell the time it isn't as big a problem as it used to be. Dyslexics are usually very good at devising coping strategies.

So not one teacher could teach Joey the time ?Amy manages it in a day and all she had as an aid was a stick and the dirty on the ground.
