I think he has a deep connection with her because of everything that happened with Ben and that he does love her in a way. He feels responsible for her because of what happened, but isn't in love with her imo. Digging doesn't equal true love.

Remember when brought Saskia back up. That's REAL love. I don't get I someone claims they are as vulnerable as a child yet lectures others on love. If I thought one of my exs was dead I would do everything as well, am I in love with them? No its called being human and he would do that for others. He risked his life with Jonny Allen for Sharon, he didn't have a shovel that's all.
And I think its horrific that people value human life so little they would ONLY dig for those they loved. When little April Jones went missing and we knew she had died.
