As a very pessimistic fan my prediction is that there won't be any surprise appearances, but in the words of Paul McGann "it's doctor who so who knows?"

Could we see John Simm as The Master escape the Time Locked Time War? John Hurt regenerating into Christopher Eccleston? Ood Sigma warning Ten about his regeneration? Peter Capaldi as the future Doctor? What does everyone think...

We're more likely to see Derek Jacobi's Master (though maybe not played by Jacobi) escape the Time War before the Lock is in Place.

We will hear the Voices of previous Doctors but not see them in the flesh (as such).

We will see Rassilon

We will see Donna Noble.

Nah, they went all out and got Connery for the role.

As long as he doesn't regenerate into Lazenby!

Where are the Donna theories coming from? I'd love that to be true!

Not a publication I'd be inclined to trust

If the Raston Warrior robot isn't in it then I'm giving up on the show

Also +1 for the power-boosted open-ended transmat beam. That should be mandatory for any anniversary episode

I'd say Eccleston (or maybe just implied that it's him, the back of his head or something - though I hope for more!), and I wouldn't be surprised if we did get a glimpse of Capaldi. I doubt we'll see The Master, I think it might be a bit too much on top of everything else.

Why do i read time and time again that people susoect Capaldi is going to appear? No chance! There is more chance of the Kandyman bouncing in on a pogostick and singing Doctor in Distress in a stirring vibrato than there is of them blowing one of the most powerful scenes the show has in its armoury- namely the big reveal! There is enough going on. It would make no sense. And it would totally dampen the excitement of the big Xmas day reveal. Why do it? And they wont.

Capaldi won't appear unless they've been very sneaky and had 11 Regenerate in the 50th and are lying to us about him going at Xmas

That would mean all the location shooting with the wig was fake. Unlikely on a BBC budget...

Yes.

That's a good point and probably true. I will be honest and say I'd forgotten about that. But still you never know, that would be a massive coup if it was all a lie.

Not necessarily. It would be interesting (and not to mention, something Moffat would do) to have a multi-doctor special that features a future doctor. It doesn't mean that the regeneration must take place during the special.

Not commenting on the likelihood, merely noting that it isn't impossible and would be very cool.

I don't see why it would be cool?! It blows that big amazing reveal moment. It spoils the costume. Its such a terrible idea in every way possible.

I'd love the Donna rumours to be true. But, realistically, it won't be.

For a start, why would they keep her appearance a secret and not the more popular character like Rose? Billie Piper wasn't spotted filming so they could've kept it a secret if they wanted to.
