I've never had any issues with the one on my old laptop.

It may not work say 1 in 20 times but that's prob because I have eczema and dry skin.

The laptop was also 5+ years old.
My HP is around 2 years old, and as I've said, on a good day worked every time. It did (I've now turned it off) on a bad day become very problematic, although I'm sure there could be many reasons for that.

However, it is the "move you finger across the sensor" type, so not the same solution as apple.

The 20% failure claim in the article linked is completely flawed. Maybe the poster who provided the link didn't read it beforehand.

I'm sure it will work fine for most, maybe for a long while too.
Hilarious that you disparage for not having stats when there were stats which you now disparage.

It is certainly as useful as that 'very small amount' that 'tell them nothing' Apple comment with most times there are problems. Interestingly Microsoft look to be copying that 'very small amount' statement too.

You will probably need to wait until Apple tell everyone what the official figures is, before it can be taken at all seriously.

I am sure they won't be tweaked in any way

Glad you stand by the figures. It goes so well for you when you hang on the views of others

Twice in one thread, let's see if we can make it 3

10's of thousands?

You think that's bad? Try searching for "Galaxy S4 gives you cancer". 10's of millions of returns!
Google "calico talks rubbish" and you get 41,900,000 hits

(I kid you not )

Still think it is a silly gimmick and a poor substitute for a bigger screen size, whether it works perfectly or not.

4" retina screen and finger print scanner or 4.5"/4.7" Retina screen and no finger print scanner for same price/ overall dimensions? No brainer, surely. Unless you are the type to look at the finger print scanner all the time as opposed to the screen

Only if "gimmick" now means "something practical that most users will use on a regular basis". Which, frankly, is unlikely.

Also, its not a substitute for a bigger screen - that seems a very odd way to look at it.

Indeed

However if you google "calico speaks the truth" you only get 31,700,000 hits therefore scientifically PROVING (beyond any doubt) that you talk rubbish more than you speak to truth

.... I thank you ....

... And for my next tricks I will prove that black IS white and that 1+1=3

Fact is they wouldn't be able to incorporate both the finger print scanner on the front of the phone and a bigger screen without compromising their beliefs as to alleged useability/size so in effect it really is a substitute for a bigger screen.

So they will compromise, just like every other phone provider.

It is stating the obvious that if they make a bigger phone, it will mean the one hand usability will be compromised. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

Also, if they can find a way of embedding the fingerprint sensor into the screen, that may be a solution.

Not before such screen technology moved on at which point it may be pointless anyway.

Don't understand the pointless comment.

They could have the fingerprint recognition on the back of the phone or even have it on the front of the phone but use the old slide finger across the sensor method that uses a lot less space.

apples business model has always been the same.

overcharge for hardware, to sell use for its software.

samsung competition has put a dent in that although even with amsung in the market apple are still making very good profits.

I agree that lawsuits and such is just childish, bad for the consumer etc. But it seems apple want exclusivty on features so as such will keep doing these practices.

Yes, because apple is the only tech company that goes to court to protect its ip

Your claim that they could put it under the glass for the next iphone and your inability to understand why that can't be done, sums you up better than I ever could hope to

What claim? Who has mention the next iPhone or whether that tech is possible or not?

I've no doubt anyone could sum me up better than you could.

I look forward to you explaining why this can't be done as your knowledge of the future is bound to be good for a laugh.

They could. Although the solution used on the 5s is more elegant.

Looks like they are already thinking about embedding touch id into the screen.

Swordman should drop them a line and tell them it isn't possible.

Some more on that great plan to make everything Linux based economically unviable.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/11...x_linux_cloud/
“The attack is taxing Linux-based platforms so they are [no longer] economical”

Seems Dropbox have joined the Open Invention Network as they see the risk to themselves in their innovation.
Monopolization is what it is all about.
