Nexus 10 or Ipad Air?
Treating Mrs Ambassador to a new tablet shortly and wondering what peoples views are between the two (though I'm aware Nexus is all speculation-ish)
I've a HTC One (SG3 previously) so I'm familiar with the Android system and pretty comfortable using it so I can help out Mrs A but she's always had pretty basic standard phones and prefers the simple things in technology We were in John Lewis this morning and they seemed absolutely intent on forcing an Ipad into our hands, pretty much rubbishing the new Nexus and saying it wouldn't be out until next year in any case! |

I would wait until the Nexus 10 is announced and make a decision then. The Nexus 10 will likely have better specs than the iPad Air and potentially last longer. It also has a bigger screen.
It really depends on whether your Mrs can get used to Android if she hasn't used it before or whether she prefers the iPad Air, especially as it is quite slim and light. I'm not sure on pricing either, but I think it will come in cheaper than the iPad as well. |

Is there an actual release date yet? I'm assuming its going to be shortly in order to hit the Xmas market, but then again no idea if Google think like that

Obviously you're talking about a second generation Nexus 10? November 22nd is the rumoured release date.

If she likes simple things then maybe an iPad would be better for her ?

Doesn't look like tomorrow for the Nexus 10 so the next likely date going by the rumours is November 29th.

I'm just thinking of setting things up and helping her. I'm not at all familiar with iOs but fine with Android and our nearest Apple store in Newcastle is a hike if we need support!
It's a difficult choice all in all. The iPad does have more software available for it, but all the really good stuff is out on Android too (Garageband excepted of course ). Does your wife have a smartphone too? That would be the thing that would sway the decision for me. Get her whatever she's been more exposed to.

You don't need to visit an Apple Store to learn how to set things up. Forums like MacRumors are full of iPad owners who will happily help you out.

Apple phone support - if you buy from them and have their warranty - are very patient and helpful.
The Air is amazing. I like android and have a nexus phone, but the ipad for me is the best tablet around, if also the most expensive. |

My generic answer would be an iPad Air, iOS still has a much better ecosystem for full-size tablets than Android.
However, what is her intended use cases? Depending on what she wants to do, something like an Asus T100 or Surface 2 might be worth considering too. Especially as the Asha phones are going to get tied into the Microsoft ecosystem once the Nokia phone acquisition goes through. |

If the Fire HDX 9" has custom ROMS, I'd also consider that for matching the 10 for also having that higher resolution c/w and the top end screen.
With the top Android phones all being HD, your current phone apps have more a guarantee of scaling better on Android. There is that problem with Apple seemingly wanting phone apps to be a separate low end market. Good for them, but a long term pain for consumers. |

I'm also waiting (patiently) for the 2nd generation Nexus 10 release. Even though I have a N4 and a 2012 N7, I could be very tempted by a bigger screen tablet. Sometimes 7 inches isn't enough
![]() If Google had any sense they would announce it in the next few days in time for the Thanksgiving holiday and the Black Friday craziness. |

Seems strange that they never had any update already. It is 10 days past the anniversary.
Though with Samsung tablets being so prolific, I don't quite see the reason for another Samsung 10. Seemingly the Fire HDX is now the only large tablet around with a screen quality that is considered top end. (maybe some of the Asus range excels too.) |

Good to get everyone's views on this.
Mrs A played the Ipad and the Nook yesterday and was quite keen on both. The store was sold out of even the display Nexus (current) models so no opportunity for her there. The Kindle suggestion is interesting as she's just got an email from Amazon telling her all her bought physical CD's are now available as MP3's for free on Amazon's Music service |

You can get your Amazon media via a free app on iPad too, so actually that isn't a deciding factor.

I love my HTC One, but would never touch an Android tablet.
Just bought myself a 4G 32GB iPad Air today with £50 cash back from Currys and coming from my iPad 2, this thing is FAST! |

You might think "It just works" but it certainly ain't innovative.
Yes, if in doubt, join that other disruptive Kid at the back in the class. Considering you 'don't have the foggiest'/ don't want to understand scaling apps to screen, I slightly worry about your Apple developer skills. BTW You are the one describing lag in the Android keyboard Jonner. Was the keyboard lagging trying to catch a bus? |
