NEXUS 4 KitKat...
For anyone still waiting for the Nexus 4 OTA (Could be several weeks) this guide is the best one for updating your NEXUS with Factory firmware......
http://betanews.com/2013/11/18/how-t...-4-5-7-and-10/ Also be aware that on the Nexus 4 you may want to install the GEL (Google Experience Launcher) to get the benefit of the full KitKat transparent stuff.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2529594 |

I manually updated my Nexus 7 after the OTA leaked, but I'm waiting for the OTA for the Nexus 4, as unlocking the bootloader would involve losing my user data. And I can't really be bothered with all of that.
I don't think the OTA is that far away now, apparently there were a few bugs in the factory image, so Google has delayed the OTA to fix them. |

Still nothing on my Nexus 4 or nearly 17 month old Nexus 7 but have had a few updates for the Google aps on both and hangouts seems to be starting to takeover the text messaging app on my Nexus 4 even though the text messaging app is still there.
The good thing is that Google now seems to have improved for it now recognizes 90% of what I ask it. Darren |

TBH its good to have a clean up of the phone before a new OS. Google should be backing up most of your stuff anyway. the only real loss is Pictures which can be backed up. Everything else is in the cloud (if your backup is on) So far my N4 is running really well after the update above. I have also switched over to ART Runtime which is immense ... super fast loading and app performance. (enable developer mode and go into developer settings and change to the new ART run) I would give it a go !... well i did |

Better to have the bugs fixed before they send out the OTA update to other Nexus stuff. So Google are right to delay if that was the case.
Darren I'm sure the Nexus 4 OTA will arrive soon as the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and HTC One will be getting their updates soon, plus the Moto X and Moto G will be getting theirs in the coming weeks as well. It wouldn't look good if they got updated before a Nexus device. |

I have the Nexus 5 so it's not the end of the world, but it's a little bit of a pisstake that my yet-to-be-sold N4 is sitting still on 4.3 whilst a non-Nexus phone has already received its update. |

I agree. Plus game-saves and app data aren't backed up by Google, and I find Helium back-up a bit of a chore. I used to be all into rooting and flashing etc, but now I just prefer everything to happen the normal way, even if it takes slightly longer.

Moto X already has, unfortunately - certainly Verizon versions have, according to Android Police, and indeed one poster from Arizona in another thread confirmed that his Moto X had been updated.

Plus the Google Play Editions will be getting theirs next, Google should have planned this better, though I guess unforeseen bugs may have put a spanner in the works. |

I just hope the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 get there updates by Christmas.
Darren Aside from some driver issues with adb, it was fairly easy for me to get the Nexus 7 to 4.4, but I can't do the same for the Nexus 4 as the OTA file has not been released. I agree and hope Google doesn't take weeks and weeks with this. |

KitKat OTA has apparently started to roll out. Could be up to two weeks before you device gets it according to Google.

I will wait till nearer Christmas to see if the OTA update comes first before I even think about trying to update myself.

My N4 lies. It says it is "Your system is up to date". No it isn't. I was going to manually flash last Friday but was busy. I wont be stuck on old 4.3 by tomorrow.
