Having played with my N4 for some more since the update I'd agree that it does seem snappier. In terms of Hangouts, I'd tried it but then went back to the stock app. I don't see why anyone has a problem - you are just being offered another way of managing text messages.

The best change I have found in 4.4 so far is the new dialer. The built-in local search is very cool (just say "taxi" and get a list of local taxi companies) but it is a shame that some of the 4.4 features on the Nexus 5 haven't made it onto the N4.

Yes, i got in touch with him and he now found it, he was in a bit of a rush and did nto have much time to have a look.

I have now updated my phone, but had to get rid of that annying noise everytime you touch the screen.

Found normal messaging app, even if the phone did keep asking me to set up hangouts. but got that sorted now.

Not sure about the dialer to be honest, and for some reason it have gone from my dock, instead I got a Android figure there, which when touch, it says app is not installed. I will have to change that.

Not so sure about the dialer to be honest, but we will see, I never got on with voice reconigion, too much noise inthe back ground and they don't work.

I did a fresh install using the factory images from the google website. 4.4 has made my Nexus 4 comparable to my Nexus 5 in terms of OS performance. I'm sure there'd be times when the Nexus 4 doesn't hold its own as well against the Nexus 5 but for the most part it sure is a close call between the two.

in terms of complaints about it most of them are in respect of the N5 which does not have the stock app.

Yes, that could be true and also the way kit kat is described, certainly on the update info.

they changed the email app as well, the old one was better. I don't mean Gmail,. but the normal email app.

4.4 works fine on my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 but the Facebook app could now do with an update as I can no longer edit my posts after I post them. For when I press to edit on my phone or tablet it pops up to edit but then I cant edit my post.

The only significant change is the Gmail style "sender image" which is easy to turn off. In the software business every time something is changed you will always get complaints that the old way was better. People don't like change - but within a few days most get used it and won't even remember what the old way was like.

Not a direct answer, but having tried GEL on my N4, I was none too impressed with the increased icon size and resulting lower resolution of those icons. So I removed it and downloaded the Nova Beta launcher. Does the same job, but with many more options and customisations.

Sender image? I just deleted a email I did not mean too, good job it is still on the server and I can get it back. stupid idea of sliding to delete a email. turned that function off.

I am sure some of this stuff is not tested on people.
i don't mind change, i use linux and have tried a few distros and they are all different, but sometimes they change things and it makes it worse.

You can download it directly from the first link that I posted. Just need to rename the .pl file extension to .apk

Kitkat seems OK, but I really dislike the lack of network activity indicator on the wifi/mobile signal indicators. I know its been done for performance reasons, but having to go to the quick setting menu to see if there is anything going on is a PITA.

Then don't. There are many apps that can overlay network activity indicators anywhere you want on the display.

Yeah, that is another annoying thing as well, this is why I don't like being forced into updates.

This morning, my wife's N4 indicated that an update was available, I had to click on a button or two in order to accept it and proceed with the update.

An update which went very smoothly, and one where the stock messaging app was left intact on the system tray (she had not installed any third-part messaging app). And that stock messaging app still worked.
