I had a look at netflix after blockbuster went bust but it's all expensive monthly fees for a limited range of old movies. Surely sky box office and itunes are better for casual rentals in the way you would causally rent a DVD? Netflix is just like a greedy mobile contract I'm amazed a naff service like this has out blockbuster out of business.

Yeah, for some £5.99 a month is a lot of money.

But for most its not for the quality they provide.

Especially as most will get the USA netflix by using many known methods.

Is this a sentence,
I'm amazed a naff service like this has out blockbuster out of business
Finally, it not APPLE. which you worship

It works out considerably cheaper than Sky box office though. £6/month for Netflix. That would get you one and a half movies on Sky box office.

I think Netflix has an amazing choice of stuff. Once a couple of sky exclusives I'm watching finish I'm thinking of cancelling sky and sticking with Netflix and freeview

I got netflix and the family started watching a couple of series on it so now I'm stuck paying for it until they are finished. It'll still work out cheaper than buying box sets though. It's not the very latest films that are on it but I'd say with four people all watching different things on it, we get our money's worth and if I don't like a film I just stop it and try another without being annoyed that I've wasted four quid.

The last time I went on my mum's Netflix, it didn't have the final Harry Potter film, which I never got round to seeing at the cinema. So clearly, Netflix doesn't have an amazing choice, unless you have to pay a higher monthly fee or something.

I caught up with Luther on it though.

Well it depends what you're looking for. I have absolutely no interest in Harry Potter so that wasn't really an issue for me. I signed up for the new series of arrested development and I've since watched loads of series on there. I was impressed to see the hobbit on there earlier this year, I didn't see it in the cinema so without that I never would have seen it. They also have a lot of Disney movies which makes me happy.

If you go to Netflix looking for the latest movie releases you're bound to be disappointed, but if you're looking for a great choice of TV shows and a decent selection of 'older' movies it's perfect.

For £5.99 a month it's excellent value. Plus there are some little gems on there you won't get anywhere else... Breaking Bad, Orange Is The New Black and House Of Cards. Those alone are worth my £5.99!!

I watched every episode of Breaking Bad on Netflix in a month- a box set for under £6 can't be sniffed at.
I do agree if you want the latest films netflix is a bit rubbish- I'd say NowTv is the best streaming site for recent films.

Hunger games , the hobbit a unexpected journey are hardly old movies. That's just 2 recent movies i've spotted on UK Netflix there are quite a few.
Also Netflix is not a contract you subscribe on a monthly basis and cancel anytime you want. Where as Sky is a 12 month contract min of £25p/m. £5.99 or £25 +£4.49 per movie? I know which one i prefer.

For £5.99 a month Netflix is great value. My wife would kill me if I cancelled our subscription.

I think it's obvious that you've never really experienced the main streaming services before, otherwise you'd likely be aware that the various licensing restrictions in place for rental windows means that neither of them will ever get the most recent films to show as soon as they've been on the cinema.

If you're willing to pay over the odds for one-off rentals then that's obviously your choice but many prefer to pay the fixed fee for the unlimited viewing choices it offers.

Children 'slower than parents were'
Last updated 6 hours ago

Children are advised to do at least an hour of vigorous activity every day
Many children cannot run as fast as their parents could when they were young, a study of global fitness says.

Experts say the work - being presented at the American Heart Association's annual meeting - suggests children's fitness levels may be declining.

Researchers analysed data spanning 46 years and involving more than 25 million children in 28 countries.

On average, children today run a mile 90 seconds slower than did their counterparts 30 years ago, they said.

Obesity
Across nations, cardiovascular endurance - gauged by how far children can run in a set time - has dwindled consistently by about 5% every decade, according to the findings.

The decline is seen in boys and girls and across all ages from nine to 17 years, and is linked to obesity, with some countries faring worse than others.

Yep, as long as you go for Netflix knowing what you're getting, slightly older movies and TV series with a few exclusives then it's pretty good and as has been said the monthly sub would get you one and a half films from Sky Box Office. If I want to see a new film I'll buy the Blu-Ray.

Only started using it since it appeared on the TiVo and been impressed with the picture quality, through the TiVo films are often available in 1080p\24fps, which is basically Blu-Ray quality and higher than the quality available on Sky Box Office.

If all they showed was Breaking Bad it'd be well worth the £5.99.

Gotta say, that's a lot to lay at Netflix's door.

You obviously didn't look properly if you think the only things offered by Netflix are a limited range of old movies.

I suspect it wasn't really aimed at netflix, rather an overly glib point about watching too much television when we should all be sending the children out to do iron man races ..

Yeah, I figured it was either that or it was meant for another thread.

How would you watch DRM'ed iTunes rentals on your TV or any other way except in iTunes? When i buy or rent a movie on the Internet, I want to be able to watch it on my home TV, and on all connected devices (tablets, phones computers, gaming consoles) without restrictions. Netflix at least is available on many platforms, unlike iTunes being available only on Windows, Mac and iOS. Having said that, I'd only buy a movie online if i could save it on my external hard drive (DRM-free) and watch it wherever I want to, in the same manner I would do with a blu-ray or dvd disc.

When I heard they say Netflix took down blockbuster is was surprised because Blockbuster deal in new releases so maybe more people just buy DVD's now?
