It's fairly well documented but in scenes shown on July 12, Ken’s wife Deirdre was seen telling Tracy that he has left Weatherfield to care for grandson Adam (in Canada), the son of his late daughter Susan.

It's been a long time and how it will be dealt with over Christmas and New Year is anyone's guess - maybe he just won't be mentioned

I think that Adam's uncle Peter should have gone to Canada.

Maybe we'll be treated to a one sided phone call with Deirdre saying 'Be sure to wish Adam a Merry Christmas from all of us'

But why would an 81 year old man fly all the way over to Canada to care for a young man?

Yes, I accept what you're saying, but what a stupid 'excuse'.

Deirdre should have said Ken was helping the police with their enquiries

A better story would have been that Ken had gone missing and that there was a police search.

Abduction or murder?

Or maybe he ran off with a fancy woman.

Again.

And if Ken does return, that would be another story.

It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't used the same "sick relative abroad" excuse to explain Kevin's absence.

Just to be pedantic...

The character, Ken Barlow, was born in Coronation Street, Weatherfield, Greater Manchester, on 9 October 1939 which makes him 74.

William Roache, the actor. is 81

Ken is probably looking for any excuse to extend his break from Weatherfield. Lets face it, what has he got to look forward to? Chain smoking old hag Deirdre, his son's never ending problems, his sneering adoptive daughter who Deirdre cannot see through. Ken must be enjoying a break as he has spent most of his life in the street, and must be fascinated by the outside world.

Ken is in his 70s, I think. However, I still think that Peter should have gone to Canada.
