The amount of clashing on TOWIE I should think he knows that (yawn) I ain't buying him at all Mark Wright was so much better on IAC than he was on TOWIE this guy is as bad if not worse as his TOWIE persona

I agree, his act is becoming tiring!

It's a risky game he's playing (if it is a game) as now he can't use the word 'clash' for the next three weeks.

And look out for him blowing his nose if anyone watches TOWIE or ever sees him somewhere out and about

I just don't understand why anyone wants to be thought of as stupid...

I quite agree. It seems after Jade Goody (who I felt was genuine) did well after BB3, every reality series seems to have someone on trying to be really thick, in the hope of doing just as well. I don't find it an endearing quality at all and most are very transparent with their act

The same Jade Goody who "genuinely" claimed that she thought Sherlock Holmes and Mother Teresa were related?

Okay not everything she said convinced me, but most of the things she said did. I think she started to add stuff once she realised the housemates would laugh. Maybe that was her way to making friends with people - like big people making fat jokes, I guess. In the beginning I really believed she was genuinely thick. Now whether that was down to her home circumstances or she just didn't pay any attention to her classes, is anyone's guess.

Either way, I still don't find playing the thick act very endearing.

Really? I missed that one, the one I always think of was her comment about East Anglia being abroad - I was 13 at the time and even I knew that

I think her case was she was more likeable than Joey in her thickness- act or not. Not to mention she was probably one of a kind at the time and no one could quite believe what they were hearing where as like people have said by now Joey isn't the first and won't be the last it's a case of we've seen it all before and quite frankly better

For someone who claims to not understand how to tell the time, he rattled that number and letter code off pretty quickly.

We should compile a list and see if he slips up later on.

He talks pretty articulately considering the words/things he doesn't claim to know

Has Joey ever been shown how to use a grown up toilet? Just wondering.

The first "lovable eejit" who did well on Big Brother was Helen from BB2 who came second

No, which accounts for all the crap that comes out of his mouth.

Yes Verence, Helen from BB2 started all this "loveable idiot" crap, the only difference being that she was genuinely thick and genuinely loveable and didn't try to con people.

I don't doubt Jade Goody was the same but played up on her own stupidity in BB3 because of Helen's success, creating probably the first truly famous celebrity who got rich from her idiocy.

Since then, pretty much every reality show seems to have someone playing up to this village idiot charicature and Joey Essex is the latest. He's a conman - pure and simple.

Back with Helen it was kind of sweet - she was kind of sweet. Jade's stupidity was funny, and a bit pitiful too, given her background. The first really 'ah come on now' one for me was Brian Belo.

Nowadays, it's like a race to the intellectual bottom; and it's celebrated rather than pitied or considered mildly amusing. Helen didn't have millions - yes, millions - of twitter followers who actually thought she was worthy of adoration. It's scary stuff, I tells ya!

Exactly this! For me it's not so much the game he's playing, it's that the game's been played before, time and time again, and better. At least with Helen and Jade there was a novelty about it, now when Joey does it I worry I'll roll my eyes so hard I won't get them back in line.

I don't doubt that he's not very bright, but not knowing basic words like 'clash', but understanding 'claustrophbic' etc. When he's not 'on' so much, he seems likeable enough, then he lets himself down.

Anyone seen his celeb juice appearances (someone posted it on facebook) he was given a quiz, the answers he gave were unbelievable shocking.
I know he suffers from dsylexia but these facts are common knowledge (he thought Jesus's mother was called Zeesus and that Richard/Judy created the world)

He does put it on to an extent, which is of course annoying. he is at heart however, still a genuinely nice guy who has overcome a lot. If he wasn't as popular and his faked stupidity wasn't rewarded so much by the paying public it wouldn't be that much of an issue. The people blindly supporting him purely because of his TOWIE roots annoy me far more than he does.

Sorry, I just read that bit with a Father Ted voice in my head.

Snorted coffee everywhere!
I wonder if Steve Davis will explain to Budgie-Boy what far away and small means?
