Since then, pretty much every reality show seems to have someone playing up to this village idiot charicature and Joey Essex is the latest. He's a conman - pure and simple.”

And don't forget Jordan who conned many people by believably acting out the 'Katie' persona while she was on there!

There was a run of a few small clips on the itv2 spin off show where Amy asks what year people were born, there's the normal replies but Joey says 'July' - pathetic.

Harsh (but true)

Maybe that can be a new trial and viewers can vote whether it be a quick process or a long drawn out one.

I saw a clip the other day where he was asked if he remembered what country borders Wales.... Apparently when he was asked the question a few months before he said London and was told it was England....... He had 'forgotton' this and said "Is it Russia?".

Sigh. Seriously, if any of us had a child and they continued to be so silly, we'd just tell them to behave and stop attention seeking wouldn't we? And with that in mind, they'd stop being silly and attention seeking when they realised acting that way was pointless. On the other hand.................

Funnily enough I was watching old videos of my kids the other night and my son is saying ridiculous things like Joey says, I am heard saying "Stop showing off in front of the camera".... He then looked embarrassed and stopped, he was 4 at the time.

Brilliant! I'm hoping someone'll be saying that to him very soon.

Aw that actually sounds quite sweet.... from a 4 year old though I hasten to add!! At least when he was 4 he was still smart enough to stop it when you brought him up on it!

For a grown man however it is painfully embarrassing. What's more embarrassing are that people seem to pander/ encourage it and some even find it endearing for some bizarre reason. I just don't get it.

Emmabell- any chance of you popping into the jungle and telling Essex to 'stop showing off in front of the camera', you clearly have some skills in this area.

I have just read that. I remember the programme with Sarah Greene. She only lives up the road from me now!

not afraid to ask stupid questions though is he, you'd think asking all these questions he'd have ended up knowing quite a lot, so either fake or memory of a goldfish?

I had forgotten that........ If you don't know what clash means you sure as hell wouldn't know what claustrophobic means..... He was off guard for a moment there.

I remember once on Celebrity Juice Keith made a joke about his hair cut making him look like the President of North Korea, and his laugh was so immediate and genuine that I thought there and then that he knew who the President of North Korea was. Of course, he immediately caught himself on and went back into imbecile mode but from that moment on I haven't believed his act at all.

You now what irritated me? As the show ended, the announcer said "Brilliant" in response to Joey's "What does submerged mean?" comment.

Yep, that is what is being regarded as "brilliant" nowadays.

But he still didn't know what submerged meant after his team had all explained it to him..... He had to ask Lucy again when they joined camps.... Very tiresome now.

My absolute favourite Fr. Ted moment - and that's a tough competition.
