I'm a Celebrity is hopeless as a competition
There are two factors that make I'm a Celebrity hopeless as a competition:
1. Unlike Celebrity Big Brother, it is almost entirely task based. We only ever see camp life in little snippets, and then it is often just to promote an ongoing 'story' featuring the 'stars'. 2. The tasks are voted for by the public. So you get, to take two obvious examples, Joey, who is a big current tv star with a huge fan base, and David, who has not been famous since 1981, and then not very. Joey was obviously going to get all the tasks because people just can't see enough of him. David was obviously going to get none because no one cares enough to pick up the phone and vote for him. So it was obviously only a matter of time before people started asking what he has 'done' to deserve to stay; and saying that he is completely unmemorable; and asking what was the point of him. (I see that there is already a 'what is the point of Alfonso? thread). If it carries on as it has done, it will almost literally have been the Joey show, not because of his dazzling personality, but because he is just given far more air time than anyone else. If anyone wants to get shown at all, they had better make sure that they contrive a 'story' with Joey or they will be out without ever being shown at all for more than 2 minutes a day. And people who are not very bright will happily assume that 'if they had done anything it would have been shown', which will obviously be completely untrue, unless 'done anything' means 'with Joey'. |

Excellent post as always Wonkey. I am sick of the pretty boy already. |

This has always been my problem with this show.
We end up seeing the same celeb night after night. We see them doing the trial for almost half the programme it seems, and the numbers are shown for the next trial, so people don't think about voting for anyone else as they are not really seeing anyone else. Joey knows, like Helen Flanagan did, you need to be seen a lot, every night for maximum publicity. I posted on that Alfonso thread, I have no idea why he is being singled out, apart from Joey and maybe Matthew, no-one else is getting a look in. |

I agree with Wonkey but it is what it is, a light entertainment show. Something funny and happy (usually) to watch on a Sunday evening and go to bed with a smile on your face.
I have to say I hadn't realised just how depressing BB and CBB has become until I watched this, and the spin off show afterwards, and laugh my head off at both. Given the choice I would watch IACGMOH any day over the BBs. |

I agree with all of that Wonky and have just commented as much in reference to what you said on the Alfonso thread.
It's like a repeat of last year and the the year before. ITV seem to never learn their lesson with this early hero-worshiping type stuff and end up isolating most of their cast. |

To be fair they are all in the public eye and will all know how it works. Part of their 'job' on IACGMOOH is to manipulate the situation to get as much airtime as possible and at the moment Joey happens to be doing it the best.
Remember David Gest? He wasn't really well known or a big star when he went in but he got lots of airtime because of his antics and what he said. Joey is currently playing the game well and getting the airtime because of that - not because he is a big TV star. How long will it last though? They have bigged him up and in typical British media style they will be looking to pull him down. The slightest mistake and he will be in for it! |

I see your main point. The only thing is that I don't think the Towie twitterer obsessives were around when David Gest was on IAC. These twits seem to ruin just about every RTV show going.

Sadly it's certainly looking that way now.
![]() All TOWIE cast members should be banned from ever entering any other RTV shows.

I know it's becoming so predictable in the voting now.

People from made in Chelsea would never be able to win a reality show.
Geordie shore is one out of one as they come across as more grounded than TOWIE people, if vicky went in from Geordie shore she would have won and the next Geordie shore person to enter a reality show probably cbb will win too. A crumb of comfort maybe TOWIE people are zero wins from four so far on reality shows but that will almost certainly change |

My other point is that it isn't really a competition, any more than x factor is a competition. It is a TV show and they make money from adverts and the phone calls.
Not saying it makes it a bad show - I love it and I'm glued to it every night! |

ITV clearly biased towards Joey and want him to win, I can't even remember anything from this series apart from Joey Essex quotes and Joey Essex trials, tonight will be no different apart from meeting the 2 new camp mates

It's not a competition as far as I can tell other than a popularity one which is usually the case with these celeb based reality TV shows and civilian ones too tbh.
What I don't get is all the snootiness about reality TV guests on these shows which are basically reality TV. Is there some kind of hierarchy of reality TV contestants As far as I'm concerned if you watch these kind of shows like I do it's a tad hypocritical to start judging the contestants on their celebrity status. That's really where Lucy went wrong with her media whore comment. It's bound to put people's back up.

I agree - I'm a celebrity is far, far better than BB or CBB both of which seem more scripted each year. If I could only watch one, I would choose IAC every time.
It's not a game show but some of the celebs seem to be treating it as such imo. |
