I'm going to have to say The Smiths because they made such an impact on me and I still have everything they did on vinyl stiil in immaculate condition, but there's so many bands I am into I would be here a while compiling a list

For me it has to be Stevie Wonder. The man is a living genius. As for Amy Winehouse, i'd rather watch paint dry.

'I'm watching paint dry and i wanna die'

The Beatles. Yeah yeah its a cliche but imagine music today without them.

And as for Will Young? Are you kidding me - best artist EVER? He's a bad karaoke singer.

Each to their own though..thats the beauty of opinions. On a thread like this you can bet your bottom dollar their are going to be acts I love and acts that i personally can't stand.

Did anyone read the thread title? EVER!!! Jees, it seems some people really haven't listened to much music. Not attempting to cause offence, but these really are strange choices considering what they do has been done better, with better music, many times before. 'Flavours of the month' tbh. Who the f**k is Darren Hayes?*

Right, rant over, each to their own, opinions are like arseholes and all that.

Lyrically, The Kinks or The Who. Musically, maybe someone like The Doors. Michael Jackson as an individual was fantastic musically, if a little bit suspect as a person.

* I know, it's a rhetorical question to enquire why he's any better than my mum tbh.

I also have a lot of Smiths on vinyl but it's far from being in immaculate condition since I played it and enjoyed it so much and still do.

Did you play your fine collection or just admire it from afar?

Isn't Darren Hayes a second rate version of Bedingfield? Vocally, there is no comparision.

By implication Bedingfield is first rate? HAHAHAHA. And no, he's not, he was around way before that waste of space.

Darren Hayes proved himself long ago when he was the frontman of a band called Savage Garden.

Seconded. You can be a decent singer, but if your music's s**t, it kind of defeats the object.

Mr Blobby has never been compared to a second rate version of Bedingfield though.

And I know who I'd pick.

The more I look at the first post, the more I think it was taking the p1ss. The word 'easily!' just makes me think this has to be either comedy, or delusion.

Impossible to pick a single artist, so I'd have to say:

The Smiths
The Cure
Joy Division
Radiohead
Manic Street Preachers

and I'd have to say the best album in the entire history of rock is "Loveless" by My Bloody Valentine, which still sounds astonishing 14 years after it was released.

Has to be David Bowie for me as a solo artist, and REM as a group.
