Lauren's mum is called Kathy and she is the former wife of Lou Carpenter.
Good move by the Producers.. and brave too, she looks like Irene from Home And Away! I can expect some fire works between Kathy and Lou!

Tina Bursill is a great actress. She's been in Home and Away a few times and Prisoner Cell Block H. I am sure whatever type of character Kathy is, she will make the character memorable.

Tina Bursill is a really respected actress in Australia and has been on some of Aussie TV's biggest hits, so this is a major coup for Neighbours.

Neighbours is really strong at the moment but the only criticism I have of it is that it has an all white regular cast and this needs to be addressed next year..

Wasn't Lauren's mum Cheryl Stark? Lou isn't even her dad

I wonder what this would mean for Lou as a character, being his ex-wife, would the Producers try to recreate the ou's and Cheryl dynamic? Tinea Bursil being well known in playing strong and superbaddie characters in previous roles,I really am hoping she is not yet another mellow nd boring character, but someone who has many sided to her.

I really hope there is the start of maybe an on-going feud maybe between Susan and Kathy, now that would be interesting to watch, the battle of the matriarch!

This could possibly give Matt Turners a lot more to do in terms of interaction scenes with his mother in law.. from hell

Bossy, stubborn and gossipy, Madge was an interfering woman who came to Ramsay Street after the break-up of her marriage to Fred to take care of Max and his two sons after the departure of his wife Maria, care that all three felt they didn’t need. However, the arrival of Madge was a breath of fresh air to both the Ramsay family and Ramsay Street, and the arrival of Mrs. Mangel gave her another dimension; a rival.
This could be Susan and Kathy!

You're thinking of Louise/Lolly.

Lauren was a teenage character in the show before Cheryl was even introduced and Louise was even born. She is now a midde aged woman who is currently on the show, I'm guessing you don't watch it and have just stumbled across this thread and remembered things wrongly Easily done but an easier conclusion to reach would have been that you are remembering wrong and not that the writers have completely rewritten history... actually, that's not unheard of either!!

My mistake about Lauren/Lolly

But I've forgotten more about Neighbours than you'll ever know having watched it since 1988

It will certainly be interesting to see what kind of character Tina is playing. There doesn't seem to be any news on what her character will be like, just the casting. DigitalSpy has done its usual job of padding out an article with unrelated info from the same show, while really only the headline tells us anything relevent. I'd love it if they just said for once "that's all we know at the moment" instead of trying to include loosely related trivia.

If she's anything to the quality of her Prisoner character Sonia Stevens, she'll be fantastic. Neighbours of course has constantly purged the talent made famous in Prisoner very successfully. I especially enjoyed Louise Siversens turn as Des Clarke's 'evil' nanny used as a pre-cursor to the introduction of Bronwyn Davies in 1988, but I digress. It will be good to see Lou's first wife, mother of Lauren and Guy, not to be confused with Lolly. I think he actually mentioned his first wife in his first appearence in the show in 1988, funny how its taken 25 years to get a gander at her.

Heady times indeed,

Yeah I am currently watching Prisoner for the first time and I'm really looking forward to Sonia's character turning up.

Oh, you are in for a treat, she arrives in episode 394 and leaves in episode 447, Her character wanes somewhat towards the end but its an exceptionally strong start and without spoiling it for you, she achieves something historic

Definitely. I don't watch neighbours but lucky them. She is a great actress, who can play a wide range of roles.

Tina often plays very strong, independent-to-bitchy characters; but she can also do soft. There really is no way of telling based on her past work. She can do the lot.

IMO her period is the zenith of pcbh. It starts to fall off after and IMO never recovers from bea's exit.

I agree. She shone when she played a bitchy mother in law in Aussie drama Offspring and was fabulous as a kind-hearted matriarch in comedy A Moody's Christmas.

It's not really a story for Lou, more like for Lauren. Depending on what transpires in the season finale, Kathy will fit into the story of Lauren's secret.

Considering how long Lou has been around for i cant believe how long it has taken them to cast the mother of his children. Looking forward to Kathy's arrival i can see her clashing with Sheila though rather than Susan. Sheila likes to interfere in Lou's affairs and the arrival of his ex-wife will no doubt put her nose out of joint. Susan barely interacts with Lou at all these days.
