How fast does your broadband have to be to watch C4 on the web?

As the title says really!

Went to try and stream Channel 4 live from their website and it gave me a warning to say that "insufficient broadband speed detected" so I then went to speedtest.net to check and got this result:

How fast do Channel4 want me to go?!?!

4OD is useless on my broadband - get the insufficient speed message and buffering all the time. My BB is VM 30Mb.

I figured out the problem in the end - I had AdBlock turned on and C4 apparently doesn't like that.

Yeah no adblock and tons of ads. No thanks. I usually go on 4OD's Youtube channel and watch on there. Quality is awful though.

Just for reference, Channel 4's live stream requires approx. 1500kbps which most people would have. Of course, that is the sustained rate, so you would generally need double to account for fluctuations in Internet traffic.

I know this is an old thread but it was first in my Googling results.

Thanks for this solution. I've come across this problem for the first time just now. I guess i've not had need to use the online service of channel 4 for a long time (multiple TV's and Sky and Sky Go).

I was stunned to see it saying i didn't have enough speed, i ran a speed test and have 75Meg! Plus i then ran a HD stream check on another service coming from America and it was running faultlessly. That's when Google and DS came to my rescue once more.

Incidentally, i just paused AdBlock and immediately turned it back on once i began viewing. After recent problems Sky Go has gone back to high quality all the time so i switched to that as i didn't like the forced pre-viewing ads on the 40D stream, the natural advert break is enough for me lol.

But thanks all the same for the solution as i'm sure i'll need the 40D live stream at some stage in the future. I'll also keep it in mind if coming across a similar problem on other streaming platforms.
