I bought a box of Roses because they were half price at £2, but I won't be buying them again.

Too many of them had nuts in, or were hard centers.
The few that were creamy, were horrible.

Not even worth £1 let alone £4.

You should have saved the strawberry cream ones for me, I would gladly have took them of your hands for you!

Maybe its because I've just got older, but Roses taste awful now IMO, cheap and nasty compared to how I remember them The milk chocolate caramel ones taste awful compared to the classic square ones, I'm sure thats down to more than Cadbury being taken over by Kraft

They still taste fine like they used to to me! Maybe your tastebuds are deteriorating?

Just had a couple of Roses for the first time this year. I popped what I thought was a caramel one in my mouth, only to discover it's now a coffee cream. At the very least they could have used a different wrapper.

I rejoiced when I saw coffee creams in the tin of Roses!

Anyway, I have no complaints with Roses this year, there weren't really any hard centres (in contrast to what a previous poster said, the only hard one was the hazel whirl and I wouldn't class that as a hard centre as such).

Verdict - better than the Quality Street we had last year!

I was expecting them to be awful after reading this thread but I had no problems. I found the wrapper colours to be confusing at first, as they are different from how they used to be. But no complaints here.

I haven't been in the UK a long time, so I don't know what the Roses used to taste like, but I will say that many people have noticed a change in the taste of chocolate sweets in the last few years and I wonder if the proliferation of high-fructose corn syrup has anything to do with the flavor difference. Many manufacturers don't use sugar (sucrose) anymore and opt instead for the fructose syrup because it's cheaper to use.

The quality of Cadbury chocolate is far superior to Mars Galaxy and Nestles chocolate.

Roses still beats quality street by a country mile.

I only like dark chocolates and this year OH got me a box of Black Magic - they were truly disgusting and they used to be my favourites.

The chocs I really miss are both old Terry's All Gold - the Lemon Barrel and the Lime Creme, they were my favourite ever

I have to say the Roses and actually the Heroes as well have been the best out of the tins this year. Very chuffed to find coffee back in the Roses and ok Roses don't taste as brilliant as before but they aren't as bad as I thought they would be going by a lot of the comments on this thread.

Its the quality of Quality Street that I found has gone rapidly downhill this year. The tin I had over three quarters of the chocolates had bloomed in their wrappers and while ok it doesn't make them inedible it certainly spoils the taste of them and of the ones that hadn't bloomed the quality and taste certainly wasn't as good as it used to be. I can't blame storage as my other tins were stored in the same place and have been perfect.

Celebrations were ok bit meh and still miffed they took out the Galaxy Truffles. Heroes were the absolute best though better now the Dreams have been ditched and replaced with eclairs and have loved the mini Toblerones but just so happy Roses gave us a coffee chocolate back.

I agree. I only have a box once a year and didn't notice any major quality difference.

What I don't like about Quality Streets is that they have too many toffee based ones. I wouldn't have minded so much in the past but now with my fillings.......

On filling came out attached to a midget gem
No more chewey sweets for me

Totally agree I have to be careful of chewy sweets as well as I have a bit of a recurrent abscess in my gum under a tooth (nothing the dentist can do unfortunately) and chewy sweets can be an absolute killer on it. I lost the first filling on a Weathers toffee and never gone near them again since. Agree though thinks its about 4 of the Quality Street that are now toffee based as there is the toffee finger, toffee penny, there is a brown toffee one and the one in the blue wrapper is now really chewy as well. Even the solid choc one they have is like biting into a brick. I only get the tins at Xmas as well but think Quality Street will be off the list next year.

Over the last years, our tastes evolved, we now eat much more quality food as a nation and experienced more quality chocolate too. We recognise crap a lot better than we did 10, 20 years ago :P

That's probably true. roses taste fairly cheap and nasty to me, when I used to enjoy them when I was a kid. But now I am used to eating a lot better quality chocolate generally.

Example? Most people I see still buy Cadbury and Nestle. We need to be a nation of dark chocolate lovers. Lindt 90% chocolate would be a good start.
