Which couple do you think were the least deserving of "First Out" status?

I've included both couples who went in the series with split weeks, as they were only participating against half of the field, and so can be considered as joint first casualties.

For me, I'm torn between Goldie & Kristina (one of the most competitive first weeks ever, with Goldie undeservedly leaving over at least four other celebrities), Siobhan & Matthew (in a year that also featured Dennis Taylor, Fiona Phillipa and Gloria Hunniford, Siobhan & Matt's Waltz was very delicate and technical, it was a combination of her nerves and lack of star power that saw them leave) and Stephanie & Vincent (inevitable when you look at the women she was up against)

Goldie & Kristina Rihanoff, from what I remember he was rather good. Then again my memory is not very good!

His Cha-Cha-Cha was savaged by Craig (who was a bitch all round that night, anyway) and his Foxtrot was a big step-up.
If I remember, he used to fool around in training and got the backs up of a few on here (not that that's particularly hard or unusual)

He suffered Spoony syndrome, in that he was good but had no fanbase (Jungle music and Ballroom aren't the easiest of bed fellows)

Stephanie and Vincent purely because they would have provided some entertaining interviews and training footage. They had a wonderful repartee going even after just a couple of weeks together.

I was quite narked when the judges kept Letitia (even though I grew to like her over the series). I don't think she danced her Rhumba better than Stephanie danced her Quickstep in the dance-off.

On dance - Goldie, on personality - OBVIOUSLY Stephanie Beacham.

She was such a loss. They should never allowed her to go first, but the alternative is losing Dame Letitia of Walford, and could we really have done without her Madonna Tango (loving Darren's innate sense of camp)

Although wasn't there SCANDAL 'N FURY at the time that, despite a disastrous Rumba, the judges had kept Tish purely because she'd signed up to the tour and Hollywood Diva with three homes Steph Beacham hadn't?

"That Gabby creature can get her leg over her head" remains my favourite Strictly quote of all time.

Having re-watched Goldie's Cha-Cha, he was much better than I'd thought. The only memory I had of that dance was that it included something vaguely resembling big fish little fish cardboard box.

Stephanie Beacham was thrilled to leave, anyway. Considering the women that year completely eclipsed the men (didn't Dom Littlewood top the men's round?) and possibly only Kate Garraway was worse than her, it was probably correct that she went when she did. Even if Letitia 'I'm still 40!'s Rumba wasn't brilliant.

Martina Hingis was unable to move, Edwina Currie was unable to watch, and I can't remember a thing about Nicholas or Siobhan.

Ian Waiter? Ian Waiter?? How very dare you!

Oh the ignominy of it, the best SCD dancer never to have won, and first the Beeb dress him as a pumpkin, and now you call him a waiter.

Watching Martina's Rumba back, she was a definite contender for first out. What is it about Tennis Players and stiff hips? (no jokes, please)

Nicholas was surprisingly creepy, although he did a good line in top hat based choreography. He must have been dreadful, though, as even Jimmy Tarbuck and his exploding heart survived in the vote against him. Siobhan was lovely, but clearly an after the thought to the line-up and so was never going to go too far (TRUE FACTS- Siobhan & Matt were the first couple I ever voted for. I like to think that's where my inherent inability to pick anything close to a winner at the start of the series comes from)

I will also make a case for Tony Jacklin- who was there purely to make an example out of Aliona (hence him being given the Charleston in Week 2. Great Golfing punnery though)

I think if we were operating under current rules and had seen Stephanie (presumably) jive as well before going under, it would have seemed like less of a WUZZROBBED moment.

(Saying to Kelly Brook "if you were my daughter I'd tell you 'one flash a day and make it a good one' " has to be in the top 5 as well surely?)

I remember Richard Hillman from Corrie going out really early. He was a bit wooden though.

I feel like we missed out on something special when Stephanie was eliminated- her partnership with Vincent would have been hilarious.
Goldie deserved to go further too. I mean, the fact that Paul Daniels and Peter Shilton stayed longer, let alone Widdy, was just silly.

I was really sad that Goldie only survived a week. I thought he had promise. He had been in Maestro I think it was and was a slow burner in that so I felt given time he could have been a contender.

Absolutely has to be Goldie, he wasn't as bad as some that year and he was quite nice to boot.
after him I would say Tony Jacklin I actually thought his first dance was kinda graceful for a beginner and an older portly bloke. he beat Vanessa hand down imo.

Goldie, definitely Goldie, I absolutely love him, he was ok too but I guess he was a very weird choice for Strictly. His demographic wouldn't watch and he's quite out there for a lot of the Strictly viewers especially back then.

The tv chef was Gary Rhodes and he was with Karen. he went out the week after Gillian. He just didn't seem to take it seriously, didn't put aside time for training and there seemed to be a major personality clash between him and Karen.

She's my choice too.

Martina hingis ?

Yes I vaguely remember that about him ( Gary Rhodes) too. He acted like he knew best which was bizarre. One of my least favourites of all time. IMO he shouldn't have got his fee.

Definitely Goldie. He is the only one I remember as going out first.

Gillian for me, I still remember her foxtrot to "Give them the old razzle dazzle" from chicago and I really liked it, also remember her being really gracious during the dance off with Ian and Jodie
