Following a worldwide celebration, Xbox One launched in 13 markets on Nov. 22 to great fanfare. The team is excited to confirm the launch of Xbox One was the biggest launch in Xbox history, with more than one million consoles sold through worldwide in less than 24 hours – surpassing day one Xbox 360 sales and setting a new record for Microsoft.

Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers. We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers.

Gamers couldn’t wait to play Xbox One and check out new games like “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” and “Killer Instinct.” In the last 24 hours:

Over 60 million zombies have been killed in “Dead Rising 3”
Over 3.6 million miles driven in “Forza Motorsport 5"
Over 7.1 million combos in “Killer Instinct”
Over 8.5 million enemies defeated in “Ryse: Son of Rome”

And, fans also found time for some exercise, with over 43.3 million Fit Points earned in Xbox Fitness.

“We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, Xbox. “Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season.”

The launch of Xbox One unleashed a new era of games and entertainment. Xbox One brings the best games, live TV, Skype, sports, fitness, music and more to one system at the center of the living room, all available at the command of your voice. There are 22 game titles for Xbox One available today, including 10 exclusive titles.

In 13 countries vs the 2 that PS4 launched in.

Still lots of Xbox Ones to be had in stores though.

The NPD numbers at the end of the month are going to be fascinating.

The fact it out sold the 360 in 24 hours shows something far more important than Willy waving against the PS4 - it just shows how big an appetite for next gen consumers have, it seems people are embracing the new tech, which is great.

Looks like the PS4 and Xbox One will soon be putting the out going gen in the shade, perhaps sooner than any of us thought.

I'm excited but waiting a while longer yet.

Didn't the PS4 have a million pre-orders in the first two weeks?

It must be amazing managing to get a launch title out at the point where games haven't saturated the market. I mean unless you totally detest the genre, everyone is going to buy forza and likewise say killzone or cod/battlefield. That is one heck of a lot of sales and profit. In fact the games makers might actually make more profit during launch than the console makers.

Just shows that it was only possible for Microsoft and Sony to manufacture a million consoles for launch. If both could have manufactured 2 million then they probably would have sold them all as well. We won't have a true understanding of sales until people can walk into any shop and buy one without ordering in advance. But it's great that there is demand for both consoles.

My only fear is that our government see we seem to have too much disposable income and decide they want a bigger share of it. Sales like these don't indicate we're all struggling.

The government is probably very pleased to see people spending right now, they won't be trying to dig any deeper into our pockets for a while.... well not until after the next election.

The big giveaway budget will be landing at some point, always a vote winner.

Watch out for that PS4 thing that launches next week though, if they sell as many as predicted then we can expect inflation to jump by a massive 0.01%, absolutely devastating to the economy !!! Quick.... Raise interest rates, bang up PAYE to curb spending.

I would go along with that, I can imagine some people trading the Xbox one bought this week for the PS4 next week, after playing the games they've bought.

Possibly not that soon as demand for the PS4 could outstrip supply, but it's definitely a scenario we could be seeing over the coming months.

Soooo PS4 sold over 1Million in 2 countries? and the Xbox One sold over 1Million in 13 countries?

To early to say if that means anything tbh.

Ive jumped from the 360 to PS4, but will be picking up a Xbox One in April or maybe when Halo 5 comes out.

Both next gen's will sell well and it can only be good for gaming in general. Time to put this 'mine is better than yours' crap to rest and just enjoy which ever format you've chosen. The fun is in the gaming NOT the hardware.

It's another impressive set of numbers, but it's clear that MS's earlier policies and price point have hurt their launch sales. I would have expected bigger numbers considering the number of countries they launched in.

Still, it's all very early days however and Xbox One is by no means out of the race. Being "first" isn't that important, it's not bombing that's crucial.

In any case, it's all good news for gamers and the industry as a whole. The next few years are going to be great!

Maybe I am just cynical but this all feels staged by Sony and MS to have a few weeks of good headlines and they can get in on each others launch news by congratulating each other as well. Both companies know how much they can supply and so we can have Sony launch first in NA and claim a 1 million units sold launch, MS can launch a week later claiming another 1 million units sold launch and Sony can follow that up with another 1 million units sold launch. Everyone looks good !!!

They can only sell as many as they can supply, the question is did they sell out because if they did their earlier policies didn't really hurt sales and the only reason they didn't have bigger numbers selling in more countries is due to lack of supply rather than lack of demand.

People who bought the consoles to get them the million sales are the people who don't really care about price and what has came before in the press

Remember the outrage to the PS3 launching at $600 or £425, that didn't stop a lot of people like me buying at launch

Both console where always going to (mostly) sell out through till the new year, the real test is January to march next year, if we see a company fall behind, then expect a price cut or mega bundle at E3

Some Target stores in the USA still have them on the shelves (and online), some branches of Game here in the UK still have stock, you can order from Microsoft UK for immediate dispatch, apparently it's easy to pick one up in Italy right now.....

I'm not saying they're easy to find, but they certainly didn't sell every last one.

As they both essentially sold out it doesn't tell us anything other than they both made 1m consoles and that Sony has the supply-constrained lead.

Is anyone else tired of seeing:

"something something something about X Console"

"Yehbut, but, but Y console is blahdy blah blah"

?????

Great first day sales for both consoles. Who wins? We all do.

Nice to see real competition between the consoles. Microsoft help keep Sony honest, and vice versa. It'd be bad for us if either console failed to sell well.

Poor Wii U, still it's the only console with a 10/10 rated game this winter!
