Good old Brucie always likes to keep us hanging by a thread about his future plans with Strictly, but it always comes good in the end.

There seems to be some airbrushing of history. He made a couple of attempts to 'break' America, with Sammy Davis Jr's support, and went down like a lead balloon.

from the Daily Mail article
But while their fancy footwork gets the thumbs up, Sir Bruce says he often takes a dim view on some of their backstage antics Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...#ixzz2lTvGjsIM I wonder which celebs he means ? |

A bit like Bradley Walsh then?
I can understand Bruce getting narked about being told he's too old to do his job properly, but surely he realises he's fairly privileged compared with most performers of his age? He probably has no idea what other entertainers are up to. It's like that when you live in 'Egoland' |

Dave King, was probably the most versatile of his time and far more talented at Bruce, who I considered never more than "average" at anything.
King had a successful career in TV and was a popular singer, with four hits in the UK charts in the fifties. He later made a career for himself in TV as a straight actor. Even Norman Wisdom, had some success as a straight actor late in his career. Bruce is stuck in a "time warp" he's a dated entertainer. |

I don't dislike Bruce, but I don't find his jokes funny and prefer the show when Tess and Claudia present it - my personal preference.
However, I do think he's delusional if he thinks he should be seen as a singer, dancer, actor etc. That shuffle he does at the beginning of the show, while sprightly for a man in his 80's, is not dancing. And the less said about his singing voice the better. He is a reasonably good presenter (I appreciate forum views differ wildly on this, so I'll try to be neutral!) but I do get the impression he thinks an awful lot of himself and gets frustrated with some of the general public for not thinking equally as highly of him. |

From the producers point of view, if & when Bruce goes is the time for major changes.
New judges etc. Easiest change short term would be to move one of the judges to presenting - Len would be ideal - or Craig. Less of the funnies - more involvement in group dance/ opening number maybe. If both Len and Bruce want to go then - to keep familiar faces - move Craig out as Host - give Tess more to do and have new two judges like the Jordans (who are popular and familiar and James would relish the "baddie" role) or Anton and Erin or even Flavia and Vincent. X-Factor is going to have to go through big changes as Barlow and Walsh are going - possible all 4 current judges will not be in place for 2014 - so this is the ideal time to revamp Strictly. Keeping familiar Strictly faces on screen, but in new roles, gives a Strictly revamp more backbone than having loads of new faces. I would surmise that the pro dancer lineup would be kept pretty much the same (if possible) to maintain stability if new judges/ presenters are introduced. |

Bruce turned his back on the BBC for the big money ITV were offering for Bruce to show he was more than a gameshow host. He fell flat on his face and ended up presenting gameshows again.

Karen Hardy should have been a judge before now. Bruce can't go on forever. I don't mind him, but his status means he is allowed to carry on.
Don't know who should replace him, maybe Graham Norton or just the Tess and Claudia combo. |

While I don;t think hosting live telly is rocket science, it is a skill. I don't think you can just put Craig of Len at the helm of the Beeb's premier Saturday night show and let them cut their presenter teeth in front of 9 million people
. Even Anton's little bit of presenting doesn't add up to much and it wasn't live (not that I want him to do it, anyway). Tess and Claudia are both experienced presenters and familiar faces on the show - I can't see any reason to bring anyone else in (well, unless it's Graham Norton ).

Me four. Seems a bit technical overload this year with both Karen and Ian talking about specific dance steps.
Preferred her when she talked about the actual choreography. ![]() I'm really not into the technicalities of it all. Returning to topic though nobody surpasses the thread subject in the annoying stakes imho. |

Possibly. After 70 years of entertaining the public, the presenter says he has no desire to leave TV screens and retirement is a way off. |

He always sounds so bitter in interviews, like he hasn't had the due respect he thinks he deserves. As far as I'm concerned, he has definitely made the most of the little talent he had. He was an ok singer, an ok dancer, an ok comedian, an old fashioned all round entertainer, but he never had an outstanding talent.
He was a very good presenter in his day though, he was brilliant at panel shows and interacting naturally with the public, but those days are long gone. BIB absolutely ! |

It also seems to me that he wants to get by on his name without having to put the work in. All the presenters/comedians who've transitioned to acting have worked incredibly hard to get where they are, whereas he seems to think it should be handed to him on a plate.
I know he's 85 and it's got to be harder, but it's one night a week for a few hours and he's carrying on like he's trekking the Himalayas. The Queen and Prince Philip are older and they work much harder without a word of complaint and I'm by no means a royalist. I don't hate the man, but I do dislike him for reasons I wont elaborate on here and the sooner he is gone the better imo. |

"The trouble with Britain is they tend to cubbyhole you. To most people in this business, I'm a game show host. I can go to Glastonbury and prove all that wrong but people still think of me as the guy from The Price Is Right and The Generation Game.
"In America it's completely different. You can present a game show and have a part in Law And Order or a film." Above from http://news.sky.com/story/1172615/si...-borrowed-time Can he not just go to America where his skills may be better appreciated? I don't think he could get much work in America. He's not funny or charming and he has no stage presence. He wouldn't be invited to appear on a show and definitely not host one. He needs to accept his limitations and go out with some dignity. |

He's hanging on to Strictly "like grim death."
He knows it's his last job in television. His performances on Strictly over the last few years, is enough to put off any other network producer. He's in the classic situation that many older people in the same job for years, find themselves. If they had to re-apply for it, they wouldn't get it. |

The issue is not has he declined, it's can he still pull it off. I think he can. Secondly a little bit of age related tolerance wouldn't go amiss.
Let's face it, all female newsreaders decline once they hit 40, should we get rid of them? |
