The audience gave it a standing ovation. I think they were just as shocked as DS was when the scores came in.

Didnt expect her to do as well as that in rumba and thought there was a lot of good in the dance.

I agreed with both sides though, as also still think it lacked something.

I thought Brendan was completely right to point out that rumba is more about emotion than sex and can often be subtle and soft. His routine was choreographed perfectly for a rumba IMO and she showed beautiful technique in places which made the dance lovely to watch. However, she didn't seem to have enough confidence to pull off the fluidity needed between movements and hip action, so it seemed a little too timid and took away some of the chemistry and emotion, which the judges then commented upon.

I think Brendan was wrong to say he's heard enough about the problems with her performance. It's her stumbling block, as she's improving her actual dancing every week and if she could just put more into her performance side I think she would have a huge explosion up the leaderboard. I think Brendan is probably completely aware of it being a valid point.

id love to know how many of the pros go back stage totally oee'd off at the criticism they have received. lets face it the judges are about as consistant as jam when it comes to scoring.

How can they say I want a sexy rumba when each dance has its own merits, personally I prefer a soft beautiful rumba to a thrusting sexy version, but I wouldn't judge one because its not the other..if you get what I mean..

Brendan was spot on and argued his points fairly. At least he stands up when the judges are being so blatantly u fair. Just look at some of the comparative scoring it's obvious why he's pissed!

I agree with you entirely. Brendan spoke the truth, and I would far rather see a beautiful, emotive rumba that they danced than a raunchy one.

I thought it was beautiful and the dance of the night. She wasn't cool or awkward at all like she's been criticised for in previous dances - she emoted beautifully and it was emotional and moving. It was possibly even my favourite dance of the series so far - up there with her Charleston & Susanna & Kevin's Paso.

Pretty was apt I thought; she created some pretty lines. After the dance ended first word that came to mind was detached and for me Brendan choreographed the dance to Sophie's comfort zone. Was pretty amazed Craig and Len held similar sentiments.

The judges are totally inconsistant. Natalie's dance was not a 10, 4 9s would have been fine... but Bruno over marks. Then has a go at Sophie and under marks? I don't understand.

I think Brendan was absolutely right, but he does take it quite seriously and gets rather worked up about it!

He doesn't need to, because people will still vote if the dance is good, and if anything they will vote more, if the judges are overly harsh.

Darling Soph did a creditable job, it was pretty and Brendan's choreo was very good and very clever.

She has NO, none, nada, ziltch relationship with the FLOOR though, ever.

She doesn't understand dancing from her feet, the dance needs to be grounded and danced through the floor.

That's what gives fluidity and natural hip action - she had none of that, she just doesn't EVER get that.

She made some lovely lines, and I think she felt connected but she can't project that.

Saying all that, it was a good dance, and it deserved MORE than it got, by a mark or two.

I thought it was better than I expected but the rumba is usually better if it's "pure filth" as Craig usually calls it! It was too prim and proper for a rumba. I'm sure Sophie could act it out for a few minutes but I feel she is hampered by her husband's constant beady eye.....puts Brendan off too obviously. They're inhibited by the husband watching. It's only acting - he should stay away maybe when they're trying to do a rumba!

Brendan was 100% right. The judges looked really stupid tonight.

In a way I agreed with both Brendan and the judges.

Brendan completely right, Rumba doesn't have to be a sexy dance, used to annoy me no end when in previous shows the judges used to emphasise the "sexy" side to rumba. It is a dance of love, in much the same way as the waltz - and you don't hear people referring to a waltz as needing to be sexy. The routine Brendan choreographed was beautiful, it was straightforward, no silly gimmicks, probably one of the best rumba routines on the show.

The judges (I felt) were completely right when they said yet again that Sophie needs to give it more performance, etc. She did the steps, but dancing is so much more than jjust "doing the steps". There has to be emotion which is shown not just facially, but in body language. Sophie cannot seem to produce body language, and her dances come across cold.

Yes, for some reason she does not connect with her heart to the dance, she gets it technically but I feel she is always slightly removed and that is not satisfying to watch.
