I did not like it. I did not like a lot this evening tbh. Really some funny music choices, it makes me wonder why would anybody dance like that to such a music.
Was Brendan right? Or are the judges being fair?

Being married isn't an excuse either; they're not required to feel passion for each other, just to convey passion for each other.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who sees this as the issue. I think Sophie's comment that it was the sort of rumba her husband was happy with was very telling.

I agree with this so much and can't really add any more. I'm sick of the judges being biased against this fantastic couple!!

I think they explained what they were aiming for and they succeeded. I don't want filthy, sordid dances either. I also think Sophie's enjoyment of the dance shone through.
It was one of the best rumbas I've seen. Amazed Darcey didn't appreciate it. Not surprised at Bruno and Craig. They just want lascivious writhing.

It doesn't matter whether he is there or not as she knows he'll see it whether live or on TV. He's there to support her as much as he can. She also has 3 children watching at home. I doubt if she wants them to see her doing a raunchy dance. I think Brendan choreographed it beautifully to suit her. It was classy and romantic.
i liked the dance, she looked lovely, it was demure and restrained, but actually - and for once - relatively convincing, and it was the only music i liked tonight.
but spoiled totally by brendan mouthing off and sophie;'s ridiculous comments about some sort of talibanesque levels of modesty and appropriateness as required by her puny husband.

It's as if he needs to rubber stamp the routine. Brendan it seems is having to produce routines that meet his approval rather than the judges.

So we're saying along with learning the technique of the dance you have to learn to act, how to convey fake passion ?
Are the pros supposed to teach them this also.

I find the subtlety over sexiness approach very refreshing, personally. I hope Sophie & Brendan don't change a thing.
I think the correct music tells the celebs what the feel of the dance is and the rhythms that the moves are meant to work with.
Sometimes I think the producers choices are so unhelpful that the celebs would do better with just a drummer playing them the basic rhythm of the dance.

I loved the whole dance, it was balletic and classy (and I love the more "raunchy" style, too!) Yes, there wasn't the passionate connection that we've seen in some of the best rumba in he past, but to my mind, that wasn't what this dance needed. It was elegant and stylish and beautifully danced and I don't think any of the judges gave credit for what Sophie achieved or how she managed the choreography. I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but it is beginning to look as if this pair are definitely not in the judges popularity zone which is quite, quite wrong.
As for Brendan speaking out - well, we've all seen him throw a wobbly at the wrong time and over the wrong thing, but this time, I thought his comments were restrained and intelligent and certainly not "throwing a tantrum".

It's called acting the dance dear. You get brother/sister combos of ballroom dancers but they still deliver great dances with the correct level of mood. And before you say it, I know Sophie ain't a professional but you need the right amount technique, mood, performance etc to equate a great dance, even at SCD level.

He was right in that the rumba doesn't have to be raunchy at all, it's a dance of passion and that isn't always about sex. But I also think the judges were right to say they felt a lack of connection between the couple.

yeah, and I guess that's not a bad thing. Some husbands/wives must be driven quite crazy having their partners go off for weeks to get close and personal with these pros and then go on live tv and pretend they've got the hots for them.
Must be horrendous.
So I understand, except we as viewers want it all.
We want to see the emotion, and we don't want the dances crippled by spouse's jealousy.
I wouldn't want my husband to dance with these gorgeous creatures, to be very honest.
Its a difficult situation for these people.
I think she is one of the few that is consistently scored about right. I love Sophie but she is not that good of a dancer, she has the most gorgeous lines and is very elegant, but technically she is not a good dancer nor she performs well.
However, Brendan is choreographing really we'll or her, and the music and costume are very harmonious and fitting with her style. All that hides away a multitude of sins when she is dancing. The effect is very pretty, the dance details not so much.

I would wait for a couple of days for that to settle down before you count the votes. It may well be that they will end up as favourite couple, but my crystal ball is on the blink right now, how'syou'rs working?
