The couple don't have to look as if they are in love. Below are two rumbas with very basic steps performed by top professionals.

Mind you it helps if the man looks like Sergey (in second clip)!

Second clip first set had nothing in it any spouse could worry about, yet it looked very sensual.

The rumba for me does not need to be raunchy but it does need the basic drive into the floor, exaggerated hip sway and at least the tentative promise of some future passion.

Kara was that years Natalie... Did not deserve to win... Hate this dance

Brendan won more rumba pro competitions than artem too
Genuine query, musicangel: have you ever rated any dancer in the competition other than those who have been partnered with Brendan? There must have been at least one other dance by someone other than Brendan + partner at some point in the last 10 years which made you think 'ooooh, that was rather good'. Which ones, out of interest?

And there any of Brendan's dances and/or partners where you've thought 'Oh, that could have gone a bit better. What a shame. I guess this week Brendan and his partner didn't manage to pull off the best dance of the week. Still, there's always next week.'?

So true - rumba is not about being raunchy it is about the technique without it it is nothing a really great teacher once said a rumba should look like you are intruding on tender moment between a couple not intruding on a moment in the bedroom

this this basic rumba by Brian and Carmen shows what a rumba should be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye5Gd2pv6wg

That's a great video for showing the basic moves and the technique - I also think that's just wonderful.

This is where Sophie falls, look at the way Carmen moves, how all her body is fluid and reacts from the feet.

It doesn't have to be 'raunchy' but it IS sensual, of its nature, and she didn't get that.

I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to tell a professional dancer "THIS is how to do a rumba".

I don't think the issue was the choreography, it was just that Sophie didn't totally inhabit it.

thank you for putting this link up it was one of the most lush rhumba's i have ever seen...

and the chemistry (despite the fact that they obviously went onto having a relationship) is what is missing between her and brendan for me personally

I want to see the justification for Fiona's rumba, scored 13 I believe.

I don't remember one of James' rumbas so I guess we're trying to prove the same point, right?

Probably the greatest celeb performance ever on Strictly and I can't stand the rhumba normally.

Why does there only have to be one way to approach or interpret a dance?
There isn't and there shouldn't be, I agree Sid. Rumba doesn't have to be raunchy at all.

No it doesn't have to be raunchy, I didn't think Cherie's and James's was raunchy but I did think it was good. Brendan's and Sophie's was boring and cold. Sorry.

Yes, I would agree with this, it's about passion not sex imo. When I watch a great rumba (and as it's my least favourite dance they are few and far between), it always makes me feel like I've stumbled onto a couple repeating their "first wedding dance" (insert appropriate dance number for the non married types ) or a couple who are lost in their own world "dancing in the rain".

It's not Peta Murgatroyd, it's Kym Johnson

You don't need to apologise for having an opinion

I didn't find it boring and I seriously dislike the rumba, but I didn't think there was enough of a connection between partners and the fluidity was lacking somewhat. But Sophie creates beautiful lines and extensions and she's graceful which helps.

But they were bonking each other so were uninhibited. When you are a married man and dancing with someone else's wife grinding your private parts together is unseemly.

So maybe the producers should remove the dance from the competition?

One of the most predictable things about this forum is that every year musicangel will start threads about Brendan and whomever his partner is that year. Without fail. She's very loyal, and I admire that. But it's a shame that she feels the need to be irrational and slag off other competitors all the time in her efforts to support Brendan. You just know that if Brendan was dancing with Natalie this year, musicangel would be slagging off Sophie. But let's see if you do get a genuine answer to your questions dancingbearbear.
