Not heard of this make of TV that's in Aldi from min next this week coming but it seems a very good price.
https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuy...-tv-dvd-combo/
Anyone know anything about the make and is the TV worth getting for a bedroom to replace an over 4 year old 22 inch HD ready 720p LCD TV that still works but had got a little slow at changing the channels at times.

I'd be suspicious about the claim "...with built-in HD tuner and DVD..." as nowhere is a DVB T-2 tuner mentioned nor is the Freeview HD logo shown

Maybe as the price is to good to be as it says.
Was just a thought as it looks a very good price.
Will have a think as theres no point me getting it if its not got all what it says it has.

I'd steer clear of that TV from Aldi, Darren. If they need to make false claims that it has an HD tuner (when the logo says otherwise) in order to tempt consumers to buy, it doesn't bode well for the quality of the product.

I'd recommend buying a Samsung UE22F5000 (Full HD with an HD tuner) LED TV for £170 (max), and a slimline Blu-ray player like the LG BP125 from Amazon for £50. The TV has HDMI-CEC so you can switch easily to the player and back. It'll be just like having the player built-in except the picture will be outstanding as opposed to mediocre.

More likely a mistake rather than a lie.

Thanks for all the posts so far. Don't think I will bother with that TV then. Was just thinking about a cheap TV for the bedtoom that had an HD tuner. As I post it was to replace my over 4 year old lg LCD that's starting to get slow at changing channels now and again. I already got a Sony bluray player in the living room. I did have an lg bluray player in my bedroom until it started playing up with the HDMI. Even after I replace the HDMI cable.

I don't see what the problem is. If it says "with built-in HD tuner" then that is what it will have. If it isn't as described Aldi will always give a refund with no questions asked. I'd say you were on very safe ground.

You could be right, but I've found 2 forum threads where Aldi have run similar misleading TV descriptions, put down to 'mistakes'. I still wouldn't risk it though. If you haven't heard of the brand, the tech spec is minimal, and it's very cheap, then alarm bells ring. I bet it hasn't got Freeview HD.

It may well receive HD transmissions in some countries because:
"There are however some countries where HDTV is broadcast using the old DVB-T standard with no immediate plans to switch those broadcasts to DVB-T2. Among countries using DVB-T for nationwide broadcasts of HDTV are France, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Denmark and Spain, though usually with MPEG4. Only Australia is using the earlier DVB-T with MPEG2 for HD."
From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-T2

But, FreeviewHD in the UK uses DVB-T2 and, from the looks of things, the Aldi TV is not equiped to receive this only
DVB-T

Im now thinking towards not bothering about getting this TV after reading some of the posts on here.
Im glad I did post here first for info and not just waited to near the end of the week and go and buy it.
It sounds like the price was to good to be true by what you are all saying.

It does say "Full Freeview HD", so that's what it should be. However it also says "built in HD tuner" when there is no such thing. HD is decided in the decoder.

As someone else suggested......You have nothing to lose. Aldi will accept a no quibble return. Instead of all the guessing games, just buy it and try it, you may indeed have a little bargain for the bedroom. If not pop it back when next passing....

It will most likely have a DVB-T HD tuner. Usable in countries like France where the HD service uses DVB-T rather than the newer DVB-T2 adopted in the UK.

Which confirms what I tried to explain in post 9.

How will it "most likely" have anything? You can't possibly tell unless you switch it on, so simply buy it and if it doesn't perform up to expectations simply take it back. Aldi have sold plenty of TVs before, so aren't exactly going into this blind. If if is described as having a built-in HD tuner it will be of the same kind as you get in many other Freeview HD televisions and HD recorders.

You have absolutely nothing to lose. At that price I might even buy one to use as a spare computer monitor.

In my study I have a Samsung HD Ready TV. It has a sticker on the front which says HDTV - tuner. It's a mpeg4 DVB-T device. It has a Freeview sticker but no Freeview-HD sticker. It is as described on it's own it cannot be used with the UK Freeview high definition service. I never expected it to, I have a Freeview settop box connected to it for HD. It will accept HD from an external source up to 1080p50 and is 1080p24 compliant.

Unless the TV has one of these on the box it is not missold.

Noticed in the blurb for this TV that the screen measures 55cm. That would be a 22" TV, a 24" would be about 61cm.

Also instore its advertised at £139.99 but on their website it is £129.99.

Having said that I have a Freesat HD box so If it does turn out that the 55cm is wrong and it is a 24" I think I will buy it because of the 3 year guarantee

In that case it makes it even safer to buy it. If you aren't completely satisfied with it you have more than one reason to claim a refund. All electrical goods should have a 3-year guarantee regardless of what it says on the box, but from what I've heard, Aldi will never quibble about it anyway - as long as you remembered to keep your receipt.

ditto your post (and your other post) - my rather dated Sony LCD is the same. It can pick up and decode HD signals via the built in tuner - provided that is the old DVB-T signal. This was indeed the case in some countries such as, France. But it cant use its built in tuner to decode the DVB-T2 signals that we use in the UK for HD.

And, yes you can add a HD box of your choice (eg, FreeviewHD, FreesatHD, SkyHD. CableHD, BluRay, PC) plugging it in via the HDMI port.

But I bet a weeks wages the one in the shop is just plain old Freeview built in. There's not many (not even now) small screen LCD's which feature FreeviewHD built in, less still if you want that + FullHD resolution screen.

To decode all UK terrestrial SD+HD signals via an aerial, it will need to have a built in "FreeviewHD" - this also means it can work with the proper UK Freeview EPG.

Sorry to get technical, but if says:-
DVB-T/DVB-T2 tuner
...then it can decode terrestrial SD+HD, but without the "FreeviewHD" logo it might not work with the Freeview EPG. Its important, as without full UK Freeview EPG compatibility you might be stuck with just "Now+Next" info, or maybe nothing at all.

Assuming you want Freeview HD, then you need it to say Freeview HD - if it's DVB-T2 but NOT Freeview HD (i.e. not a UK model) then it's fairly useless.

But for the cost what do you expect?, it's a cheap price because it's a cheap set - however the three year warranty makes it far more viable.

Yes I want Freeview HD as in the next 5 to 8 years the UK will be starting to move to HD only channels in some parts of the UK.
As above was posted a Samsung TV with a HD tuner for under £200 on Amazon and £10 cheaper than on the Tesco website. Not a make of TV I would have went for but it looks good and under £200.
I don't want to spend to much on a TV just for the bedroom and as said it would be replacing an over 4 year old LG 22 inch HD ready 720p LCD TV. That still fully works but has got a little slow at changing channels now and again.
I also got a 5 year old Panasonic 32 inch full HD 1080p LCD TV in living room that's got a Youview box connected to it.

I don't think that is strictly true, but I consider you wise in wanting Freeview HD nonetheless!
