ive had a galaxy note for 2 years, but im sick of the android laga and going back to ios. so planning on getting a 5c next. i prefer the smaller screen now and i dont think the massive note screen is really necessary and the payoff for the more pleasant os is worth it. any one feel the same.

Go for the 5s. You won't regret it. It's fab. My friend has the HTC One and he couldn't believe how much faster my 5s was and much smoother with no lag than his HTC. He was boasting about his speakers being better but when we did a side by side comparison there wasn't any difference in the sound quality. The fingerprint ID is very handy as well.

Yes I had an imported phone with a 5 inch screen but it got damaged. Now I have an iPhone 5 with a 4 inch screen. I prefer android personally but ios is ok.

I suppose it will take some getting used to the smaller screen. I also had a galaxy note and now have an S4. Although the difference in screen size is only 0.3 inches the S4 felt small to me when I first got it and even now I still lust after a bigger screen. The original note was horribly laggy, and just frustrating to use at times. However my Galaxy S4 is much better, very smooth, fast and it doesn't lag. I think the newer android phones are a lot better than those from 2 years ago. Having said that you can't go wrong with an iPhone in terms of performance bad reliability. Despite the greatness of my S4 my iPod touch 5th generation is still smoother and faster. My iPad Mini first gen also runs faster and smoother than my samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1.

I have both those phones and have to agree, though every time I make such a comment in this forum I get ridicule from the Android fanboys.

Yeah.I downgraded from HTC one to HTC one mini because it is better to use with one hand.Although I am tempted with Sony's upcoming Z1S phone.

Honestly I'm just going to ask what lag on the HTC One I am being completely honest I have experienced no lag. I will give you that 4.2.2 android was slightly slower than 4.1. But since going to Android 4.3 it has been perfect as hell not noticed any lag at all.

What do you think of the mini? It is one I'm considering.

I am considering to go in the opposite direction and try a phablet. I do not use my phone for phone calls much, having a big screen for anything else is an advantage, IMO.

You don't get ridiculed. You get response's from people like me when you make odd claim's about what your one apparently doesn't do or other odd issues you have with it constantly yet boasting about what your 5s does perfectly every time. You are a true apple fanboy which you demonstrate every single time.

As for the sound quality bit, the one sounds much better than the 5s.

I'm quite happy although there are some sacrifices to be made such as lower resolution screen and smaller battery etc but overall I like it.

Yes,

There are a few posters here that are just rabid in their hatred of Apple so twist facts to their agenda. They are actually ruining the forum tbh as there is no possibility of a rational debate. There are pros and cons to both systems.

I can't speak for the HTC one but after using a 5s and Nexus 5 for the last few weeks, both excellent phones from a user point of view the main issue I still have from Android is the effort in managing the battery and perhaps more software unreliability type of issues such as Skype just rebooting the phone.

A good example was a recent problem in google services which drained my battery on the N5 in less than 2 hours which was a little annoying as I was out and so couldn't use my phone.

You get bugs in iOS but on the whole it's a more reliable system which is to be expected given that the hardware and software are more integrated.

Chrome is getting better but the smoothness of scrolling/pinch and zoom on the 5s safari browser is another level.

Why do you assume that there is lag. Maybe the 5S is just faster. My S4 doesn't have any lag yet my iPod touch 5th gen is just faster. However speed is not the most important thing to me. My S4 is plenty fast and I love it.

It's funny, but I am the same. I have a note II and I have ditched it in favour of my old iphone 4. I got fed up with the android operating system, and the phone it's self is just too big. OK I miss the clearer text but it so happens that apple released their new OS and I am now using my iphone.

I have gone the other way. I had a Sony Xperia with 3.7" screen and last week moved onto the Nexus 5. This is not the thread for extolling it's virtues or otherwise, but for me on a personal level the increase in size means the keyboard is larger. Now large enough for my fingers which in turn means I am no longer typing and re-typing SMS and emails to get rid of all the errors.

Read the comment that he quoted from he mentions lag and then the person I quoted from agrees with him. Honestly if the iPhone 5S is quicker then it is something which is going be scientific at best all my apps load up in couple of seconds it not going be really noticeable at all.

As I have said in the past I'm not against iPhones I think they are reliable devices it is the screen size that puts me off. The battery life as well if what I have read is true about it. In theory increasing screen size should allow them to fit a bigger battery as well. I will certainly be looking forward to the iPhone 6 next year.

Is the speed at which phones launch apps the most important thing people pick on these days when they describe "lag"?

Lag is the amount of dropped frames essentially during an animation. Some people don't notice it some people do. As android devices have become better and as google has improved things this is becoming less of an issue.

In chrome if you pinch and zoom a web page on android you will definitely notice dropped frames, even on a Nexus 5 ( using dalvik at least )

The other thing that might make an iPhone seem smother is that when scrolling the background threads are practically suspended. So for example if you continuously scroll a web page up and down on iOS as the page is refreshing there is no lag but the page stops refreshing. Doing this on the android the scrolling will seem very jittery and might even stop but the page will keep refreshing in the background.

That's not to say iOS never drops frames, some of the animations in iOS7 definitely drop frames but some of these have been fixed in 7.0.4.

I don't think that's a good measure of lag. Of course if one device is taking a while to open apps then that is lag. But if one device opens apps a millisecond slower than another device I don't think its fair to say it has lag.

Oh I see what you mean now. I agree totally. Once a device is fast enough, I really couldn't care less if said device opens up apps a millisecond quicker than my own.

Actually that's called stutter.

Maybe you should read up on the definition of "lag".

Well is there a definite technical definition. Stutter is a form of lag as it's an example of a realtime system not updating in a timely manner to user input.

When I type on my HTC One there is this very small but perceptible lag between hitting the screen and the letter appearing. It very often makes me think I have mistyped and I stop to check that it's done what I expect. This has been discussed in the past and I seem to remember that it may be that IOS has closer integration at a low level driver interface between the O/S and the hardware (due to both hardware and software being under Apple's control). This was also my experience on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 I used to own, and also on the no name Android tablet I still have.
The saving grace for me is the Swype keyboard on Android, this outweighs the lagginess.
