I think it's time for Bruce to call it a day

Last night was the worst I've ever seen him, there was even a moment where I thought he was having a stroke live on air. He seemed to seize up and got horribly tongue tied.

I've always defended him in the past because I felt that he was part of the shows charm, however I think the time has come for him to admit defeat. How much longer can he realistically go on for? He's 85 for Christ's sake, he's done very well to last on television for as long as he has, but it's obvious that he's deteriorating a lot. It happens to us all eventually, but it's happening to him on live television every single week and it's not nice to see.

On the occasions where he's been off sick or taken a break that show has actually flowed a lot better and viewing figures have remained strong, I honestly don't think it would miss him that much if he was replaced by someone younger. I'm concerned that one day he might actually just collapse on air. But I think he quite likes the idea of "doing a Tommy Cooper", sadly.

Time to call it a day Brucie.

Brian Conley to replace him please

It was a worrying and horrible moment. Alarm bells should be ringing for the decision makers.

Yes Brucie. How much better if you decided to call it a day yourself and not wait to be pushed.
We've all enjoyed enjoyed your shows over many years, but sadly there comes a time when we must all call it a day.

Time for Anton to step up!

I'm surprised his wife & family haven't noticed how feeble he is & asked him to step down.

Anyone but Anton please!

I think it will probably be Graham Norton who eventually replaces him, he was very good on the ALW talent shows.

It must be decreed somewhere within the DS forum rules that, each week, there must be at least 2 new "Bruce must go" threads.

Well that's fine if you want to start sending the show up any more than it sends itself up already.

The danger there is that it would be more about him, rather than the dancers.

And I'm speaking as a Graham Norton fan.

Seriously? I am able to sample EIGHT same topic threads made in the last few weeks and you don't feel that I may have some point at all?

And don't forget the 2 equally tedious "Leave our Brucie alone" threads created in response. The irony being, the more he is talked about, the more he is likely to be kept on

There's always been duplication of topics.
How many people actually bother to scan more than the front page or do a search before starting a topic?

This board is just a bit of fun.
It really doesn't bother me if the topics are duplicated. I do try to avoid this, but really what does it matter?

How hard is it to scroll down past a duplicated topic?

There's one "persistent topic starter" I have on ignore, as they post the same boring stuff on every thread and I usually scroll post all the topics they start.

Everything, eventually bleeds off the bottom of the first page.

Those who object to the number of anti-Bruce posts because they think he's wonderful (and that's about which all this is, really) can be assured that it'll all stop at the end of this year, when he goes.
That much I believe is certain.

Did anyone else notice how awkward Tess looked at the start of the show when Bruce completely messed up reading the autocue? I just cringed...

oD”

Well personally I think it's pretty sad that you felt the need to actually trawl through the forum, looking for threads several weeks old, then took the time to copy and past the links just so as you could make a point. Seriously, why?

Surely are aware of the nature of a discussion forum? Where sometimes things will get discussed more than once and often? It's not like those eight threads were all on the first page all at once.

No one is breaking any rules. If seeing the same thing posted over and over again is so offensive to you then ignore the threads and don't keep bumping them up not rocket science..

That's the thing Vodka, I didn't have to spend any time doing that at all. The top thread is on the front page and all the others came from the first page when I searched 'Bruce'.

Yes, it is a discussion forum, so why not just join the same topic discussion already being had on this front page, instead of diluting and polluting with a duplicate?

I've never before joined in the conversation about whether or not Bruce Forsyth should go, although of course I've seen the many, many threads on the subject.

But the OP has a point, which is that there comes a time when even the most neutral of observers can see that it's not fair on anybody for Bruce to remain as host of this show. It's not fair on us, because it's painful to see such a TV institution losing it in front of our eyes; it's not fair on his co-host to have to try and pick up the pieces; and it's certainly not fair on Bruce if our abiding memory of him is of this bumbling persona, rather than the quick-witted, quick-footed host of yesteryear.

So this is not an anti-Bruce rant: it's a pro-Bruce rant. Please retire now, for your own sake.

Interestingly, I just played last night's show on Catch Up, and they cut out the bit where Bruce fluffed his lines.....

Seeing as there are so many people saying it it time for him to go maybe it is? It is true that the show flows so much better when he is off.

No doubt about it, last night was his most fumbling, stumbling, mumbling, pitiful and confused presentation ever.

Missed cues, constant comments in the background when the Judges were talking, inane comments to the dancers and to the Judges. Pitiful attempts at humour which would have fallen flat even at a Primary school Christmas concert.

Add to that his repulsive groping of the female performers, (have you noticed how some of them now make sure they are standing further away from him at then end of their dance?), not least poor Tess who has the feel his fumbling fingers at the start of every show.

Time to go - now!

Good post.

What I don't get though is, why do the Producers think it'll lose ratings if Bruce Forsyth goes?

I'm pretty sure it won't, it may even increase. Brucie really, really is way past his sell by date.

Up until a few weeks' ago, I would have said it's up to him but yes his time has come but that's just our opinion. I don't think he will be sacked, no way they will do that, so it might have to be a case of he'll see it when he's ready. When he came back for his second stint of the Generation Game, he was on fire; that's the best I've seen him and thought he was hilarious. Now, it's a tired and dated format which includes Bruce. One thing I'm not going to do though is join in on the nastiness about him; some people seem to be obsessed with having to mention Bruce in whatever post.

It won't lose ratings. When Bruce takes break the viewing figures remain the same, that just proves that the format is strong enough to survive without him.

I think it's more a case of the BBC being scared of yet another ageism row to let him go, and he's too arrogant and deluded to realise that he isn't as sharp and quick witted as he used to be.

Thing is if Bruce were a woman he'd be long gone from our screens by now....

This is Bruce's last year.

John Barrowman will take over next year.
