Both my partner and I agree that the music played by the Dave Arch orchestra must be the worst ever, how can the contestants ever dance without a proper music tempo. On top of poor tempos we have a singer screeching away like a cat being strangled which must be offputting for a contestant trying to remember the steps to say the least. come back Victor Sylvestor, all is forgiven. Just wish someone connected with the the show would listen to our comments about the music.

I agree with you, apart from the paso for Kevin and Susanna I think there have been some bad musical choices

You might want to re-post on a very similar existing thread here. Creating a new thread just fragments the discussion.

The singing was actually much better last night - I noticed they had a new female singer who sang Abbey and Patrick's song. Hopefully they hang on to her, Hayley and Andrea are great too but they often have to sing stuff that doesn't suit their voices.

I think you must be listening to something else! I love that there is a live band and vocalists and think they do a great job.

As a long time supporter of the band and singers, even I was critical of their performance on a few of the tunes.
However they are consistently given some crap music to attempt to interpret for dance.

Who was the numpty who chose, "I Will Always Love You?"

This was originally a Country song, which was turned into a "power ballad" by Whitney Houston (like her or not, I don't) and beyond the power of any of the band singers and anyway totally unsuitable for dance.

I used to like the live music but more and more they are being given crap music and crap arrangement. The music for Natalie's Tango last night was terrible.

I think the band do a good job most of the time. The singers can be a bit dodgy but I think the choice of music this series has been the worst yet. Interestingly I've noticed the pro dancers have been emphasizing how the producers have been responsible for some of the music choices...

Never mind Victor Silvester, how about Joe Loss? Mantovani? Edmundo Ross? We are showing our ages here

Without question, the Pro's do not choose their music. I have read that they are given a choice of, say 3, and the Pro picks the best of a bad bunch. The music is appalling. None of it is strict tempo and not much of it is actually appropriate for the dance.
We have also read that the producers may even suggest the theme of the dance - as per Ola's interview. The professionals are more than capable of selecting the correct music for their dance, why can't they leave it to the Pro's ? I prefer traditional music for Ballroom/Latin but "Traditional" doesn't have to be old fashioned.

One of the worst music choices week after week is for rumba. It seems any old slow ballad-type song will do. It drives me nuts. It would surely help if couples dancing the rumba had a song with a rumba tempo! It would certainly help get the hips moving for the celeb. We do get it on the odd occasion - Kara and Artem's fabulous rumba to Samba Pa Ti, plus we did get Spooky by Dusty Springfield a couple of years ago, but it was wasted on Anton and Nancy Dell'usional. I feel like starting a campaign!
