Little bit of blood in cats poop

My cat who is an 8 year old long haired Persian did his poop in his litter tray today and after leaving his box a bit must have fallen onto the floor. After flushing away the big part (which looked normal) I noticed the fallen part which when I cleaned up had streaks of red in it which I assume was blood.

What could it be? should I check his poop next time he does it inside or what?

Is the blood mixed in with the poo, or just on the outside of the poo?

Check the next poo he does - if you can catch him pooing, even better. It would be good to see if he's straining or not. But either way, if there is blood in the next poo, go to the vet - keep a sample of the poo if possible.

When I see blood in cat faeces, my first thought is always "when did I last worm him / her"? If you have not wormed your cat recently (last few weeks) with a 'proper' wormer prescribed by the vet (rather than an otc drug from the pet store) then that would be the logical first step.

With ours, the problem has never persisted post-worming but you need to keep an eye on the litter tray (even keep the cat in for a few days) to ensure the problem isn't persisting. If it is then yes, I would definitely take the cat to the vet.

Is anything likely to be stressing her? It's often a sign of stress. I'd keep an eye on it and if it's there again, take a sample to the vets.

Hi there, I'd defo keep an eye on her but in my (albeit limited!) experience of cats I would guess it's worms. I freaked out totally with my first cat when something similar happened...but all that was needed was some med's from the vet, after a checkup. Hope it's the same for you and your puss too!
