it was a big step backwards for her after the brilliant singles from "rhythm of love", but i was surprised it missed the top 10 to be honest. her bubble had burst at that point and her career with pwl had become stale by then.

ultimately, i dont think the song was lead single material and it didn't really fit the album all that well either. the video is dreadful too, so cheap looking, but its always funny to see davina mccall's dancing cameo.

Kylie in the 90s was just a mess. No sense of direction at all.

Although saying that. Impossible Princess is still the best album she ever did. Shame she lost her nerve and went back to generic bubble gum.

Musically it just seemed that little more mature than the stuff from her first three albums but still kept a very pop sound. Image wise she is just a total babe during this single's era just look at her hair and body and sexy styling.

yes, but "not to my ears" isn't very much of a convincing argument, with the greatest respect. she was in decline commercially at that point, but she could still score a top 10 hit when the material was good, just like the next two singles proved.

But they weren't good they were infact dire in comparison to the fabulous Word is Out.

That's why I am confused. Word is Out was a more daring pop move.

the three other singles were more mature in comparison and fitted the context of the album much better. "word is out" just seemed like an after thought and a cynical attempt to lead the album with a safe hit, but that obviously didn't work.

Word Is Out is okay at best catchy upbeat but a musical misdirection it really didn't fit with the album or era KM was branching out and WIO like others have said sound slike an updated version of her earlier singles something PWL were proabably aiming for.

LGTI itself wasn't a great album but some of it segues nicely into KM 94, which then bled into IP. I love Km in the 90's brave daring and two fantastic albums came from it and i doubt without it KM in the 00's would ever have existed even if it was a commercial disaster.

The 1994 album was called 'Kylie Minogue', but the 1997 album was originally called 'Impossible Princess'.

The title was changed to 'Kylie Minogue' after the death of Princess Diana.
Most people still refer to it as IP though.

I preferred it to her previous few singles. It may in practice be my favourite Kylie song between 1989 (Wouldn't Change a Thing) and 1995 (Where the Wild Roses Grow).

The video was before its time and plays better today than it did in its day. The overtly sexual nature was a glimpse into a fashion trend that was seen in London at the time in the clubs, but did not leave London.

There was a small backlash in Ustralia becuase the song was thought to be about Jason donovan.

One of my least favourite Kylie songs ever. I remember when it came out thinking it was sh!t, the video was awful and time hasn't changed my mind.

I find the song to be just ok. I like it more today than I did back then.
In 1991 , I bought it (as I was buying every Kylie single at the time) but was very disappointed with it. I found Finer Feelings to be just as ordinary too.

I loved Rhythm of Love - it remains my fav Kylie album, and I hoped/expected another couple of tracks to be lifted as singles.
Word Is Out came along, and it struck me as being weaker than every non-single (album track) from Rhythm of Love.
