We've already had the discussions about her controlling husband and today she said she could never have done a "raunchy" rumba with her Gran and Dad watching. If she is going to go into every dance worrying about what her family with think of her then she has absolutely no chance of progressing much further. And it does help explain her obvious shyness so far. Great shame as she is actually my favourite.

Perhaps she was held in a dungeon by her dad and nan when she was a child, and they controlled every bit of her life (which is why she dances like the undead.....whahahaha) *switches off sarcasm button*

here we go again. Unless I'm missing it, glad to see that thread about her husband was removed last night. Why do you people read far too much into things instead of accepting that everybody has different values.

Good post, and I loved her Rumba

Me too; so engaging and glad the judges gave her credit for her lines.

I was pleased she said that. Really glad some people still have values. It doesn't mean she's got a controlling family. She has respect for her body and for the people around her. That was one of the reasons I agreed with Brendan's comments - I much preferred their rumba. Not everyone wants to see passion filled, sexual dances. Thank you Brendan and Sophie.

Me too.

It made me like her even more. Yes they enter it as a dance competition but that doesn't mean they have to loose sight of the values they hold. Good for her for caring how she appears to the world. Self respect is a positive trait.

I'm also glad they were put through but not only was her rumba captivating and unique, Brendan was right to speak out. I like her Sophie for being different and that's part of her appeal.

I think Sophie was just sticking up for Brendan's choice of doing a rumba that was not raunchy but more intimate.

Intimate yet sophisticated with great lines

The rumba was ever the romantic dance not the bums and tits grind we see so often

I don't see why this would prevent Sophie from winning - if anything it makes me like her more! She is a class act all the way.

I really like Sophie, and I rate Brendan as a dancer and choreographer, but as a dance coach, not so much. He's just so intense; when he rails against the injustice of the judges, Sophie looks rather uncomfortable, and I imagine it alienates some of the voting public.

He needs to chill out and accept graciously the judging inconsistencies and other quirks of the show. He clearly has never bought into the idea of SCD being an entertainment show - he treats it like a dead serious dance comp.

I can see right through you but I think you've got it wrapped up.

I find it rather endearing myself and I agree it's nice to see someone with standards but I wasn't just talking about the rumba - she seems to hold herself back in every dance and that will certainly handicap her when it comes to the crunch.

Good for Sophie for wanting to keep a bit of dignity and for having high standards for herself.

It's refreshing to see it this day and age. Shame girls like Miley Cyrus can't set such high standards for themselves .

I agree entirely. I think it is rather sad that there is this expectation that the only way to make an impact or career is through "sex".

Forget the empowerment thing Miley. Have you tried art?

She's got far too wide a face to win this show, too unnatural looking.

I really like Sophie, but her dancing is too limp. I think it's probably too late for a breakthrough dance at this stage.

The only dance I liked of hers was the Charleston, it deserved 4 10s, however since then she has lost that spark. I find her dances boring and stiff.

I thought their rumba was lovely, not knowing much about 'dance' in the abstract I don't understand why something that is apparently called 'the dance of love' should be all about bumping and grinding.

Apparently the waltz was considered scandalously racy when it was first introduced but you don't hear the judges calling for the waltzes to be 'more sexual'.

I blame Dr Pamela and her obsession with James Jordan.

I know the OP had a different angle on why Sophie won't win but I think that the judges seem to have it in for her and, more so Brendan, if they end up in the bottom two I think they may get voted out. Once Mark is gone, I think she's in danger.
