My 8 year old but great Pansonic Plasma keeps switching off randomly so i could do with a new TV.

I always preferred plasma over LED, at least it was miles ahead 8 years ago when i looked. However we bought a relatively cheap 40" LED Samsung last year for one of our rooms and its surprisingly good.

Now we need a 42" - 50" TV for the lounge. I would prefer to keep the budget to around 500 but quickly realised i needed to up it. I was shocked to see some TV's at 1.5k so i hope my shortlist is decent.

Anything between 40-50" 500-750 quid. Ideally a full suite of catch up services, iplayer through to demand 5. Netflix as a bonus

I picked

1) Samsung 46 F6510

or

2) Samsung 46 F6800

I don't know if there is any difference? They seem identical apart from something called Microdimming on the 6800.

We do nee something with good freeview capabilities as well as being hooked up to sky, netflix and the occasional DVD. 3d probably still a novelty but will give it a shot.

Any advise on these sets or others in our price range would be much appreciated.

No advice re the Samsungs. I'd advise going somewhere that has both TVs on display and comparing them side by side. I've been looking at 39-42 inch TVs for a friend though and found out that the 39 inch LG 39LN575V is a bargain. It has the most amazing picture quality on all sources. You'd have to pay at least 800 to equal it and probably over 1000 to better it (in my opinion anyway). It's only 400 but no 3D I'm afraid. I quickly got bored with 3D though, and by all accounts this is common: http://www.johnlewis.com/lg-39ln575v...iew-hd/p455748
