Where did Mark go wrong in his dance off performance?

Thought Ben was very popular with the ladies, going shirtless and flexing his muscles. I am not keen on "Body building" type men!! But I know a lot of women like them!! So was surprised he was in the Dance Off.

Do you think they left Brendan and Sophie to the last two celeb couples as punishment for Brendan's comments about filth!! I would have been furious if they had been in the DO!! Brendan's Rumba was fabulous on Saturday night.

I did spot that he was out of time during the monkey step and missed some steps at the end

if you compare the two dances at 0.45 and 1.27 in the original with the corresponding bit in the DO (about 30.10 and 30.55)you can see a clear difference IMO.

Mark wasn't doing the Charleston The person was asking where Len saw the mistake in Mark's Foxtrot I believe.

No, probably more to increase the tension and anticipation of a shock DO for the viewing audience.

The reason they chose Mark over Ben... is because Ben royally screwed up in the dance-off. Nothing more, nothing less. The judges may have been loathe to do it but if they had chosen to save Ben despite his mistakes it would have made a mockery of them and the show. I hope Craig watched both performances back and saw just how badly Ben fudged up but even if he did I highly doubt he would admit to being wrong. I'm sure he will say Ben's energy was better but that's hardly fair given it was Charleston vs Foxtrot. Energy is not dancing. Ben's timing was off and he messed up his steps. His elimination was absolutely justified and correct.

Crikey - I thought they had made the mistake and meant to say Ben - and their reply reflected that too

Imo It's a little bit suspect being that Mark has survived the dance-off for the third week. I know which I would rather watch. I have never been a fan of Kristina but in her shoes I would be more than a bit miffed....As for the reason they saved Mark.... my guess would be that the Beeb look after their own.....

My thoughts exactly... Must say I also felt like Ben could not really be bothered anymore, lack lustre...

It's tough being a conspiracy theorist, isn't it? I mean, those poor judges must be in a spin trying to 'look after their own', since so many contestants are actors who may have, at one point in their career, appeared on something that airs on the BBC.

I guess you're referring to Mark's recent gig on Waterloo Road? Waterloo Road is commissioned by the BBC, but produced by Shed Productions, who hired Mark Benton to play a role (don't know what, never watched it). So, technically, he doesn't work for the BBC so is not and never has been 'one of their own'.

Oh, and that's not even addressing the nonsensical notion that the Strictly judges have some kind of stake in promoting BBC employees. Why on earth would they give a monkey's?
What name??

He looked poor dancing against a middle aged overweight guy with two dodgy knees. It's only the fact that he is popular that kept him in this long.

Haha, I indeed was referring to Mark's mistake(s). I was thinking did Mark do a monkey step. Lol

Mark demonstrated more sway in the danceoff and Ben made noticeable mistakes.
And Mark's is the dance I'd watch again of the two.
Right choice for me.

However, I do think that if someone up the top end of the leaderboard/ a front-runner had been in the DO with either Mark or Ben and made mistakes these would of been 'forgotten' and they would have still won because of their 'potential'. So it's one rule for some and one for others”

It's not a case of different rules. It's perfectly feasible for someone to perform without error and still go out to someone who has made errors.

In your hypothetical situation, let's say Mark has received a score of 4x8=32 during the main show...that's not unrealistic if he dances a belter, but it would have to be his best dance ever. Then say he reprises his routine with no errors. He is still sitting at 32.

Celeb #2 has scored 3 or 4 more points on the night, but their routine contains considerably more content and difficulty. Celeb #2 makes an error during the dance off. If most or all of the judges deduct a whole point, they are then sitting numerically equal with Mark, but they would have still danced a more difficult routine, with more content and thus deserve to be saved. They may even have improved in an area that had previously held the dance back from being a 9 or 10, but given that they made an error, there score remains the same as it did on the main show. Above Mark's

Someone is going to have to really screw up to lose to Mark in the dance off when and if he is next there.

I'll give you a reason to keep Mark.

I think they saved Mark cos they know he will be in the bottom two again next week, so they took this opportunity to get rid of Ben.

I do really like Mark though, seems a lovely man as was Ben of course

I don't get why this is subject to so many conspiracy theory threads. Mark was better than Ben in the dance-off - the only thing there's really a question mark over is why Craig would have saved Ben given that the dance-off is meant to be based purely on the two performances done in it.

But Ben would have been in the bottom two next week if he had not gone this week.

So nothing gained really.

His justifications on ITT will be rather interesting tonight. I'm sure that it will crop up.

Bit strange isn't it? Mark was better on the main show, albeit only by one point. He upped his game and did exactly as asked by adding more sway to his movement in the dance off.

Meanwhile, Ben was fairly at the bottom of the leader board after the main show and was even poorer on second showing. If ever there was a "Thanks, but I have had enough" performance, that was it.

Mark they could assume will be bottom 2 next week as he has been there the last 2 weeks.

I think the judges/ producers may have feared that Ben may have bounced this week leaving them with a choice of say Abbey and Sophie in the bottom 2 next week.

Any thoughts?”

Mmm, not sure I follow the logic of this - who says that Ben would not have been in the bottom 2 next week? And in any case, once Mark goes (probably next week) after that people like Abbey and Sophie will be up against each other - it's only another week or so until the scenario you portray becomes reality, and whether Mark is saved for another week, doesn't really change things much.

Yep. Ben's dance meant any mistakes would be more obvious - and unfortunately they were.

I say this as a card-carrying Mark fan so it's not sour grapes - I would so so much prefer it if there was no dance off. It is much easier for everyone to accept the public vote (irrational as it can be) to the judges' decision they don't agree with.

Or if we have to have one, if there is a clear difference great, if there isn't the judges could declare a tie or abstain, in which case it would be the person with the most votes who stays. There is no reason why it should be obvious why one dance was better than another every week.

Because last night was bad enough (and while Mark is my absolute favourite, I do sympathise with the Ben fans because I've felt like that too in other years, particularly as I think Mark was all but asking to go home). But think how it's going to be if it's a Sophie v Abbey dance off, or Ashley v Patrick. Because lots of people are very even this year, I think it's going to get very mean-spirited if they keep the dance off to the final.
