Why are Carphone Warehouse so difficult?

I've been in the stores four times over my 5 month S4 in the past two weeks and I've got nowhere.

Firstly in Leeds while away they told me to send my phone back to the Norwich store as a mark was forming under the glass.

I go there and they tell me they'll fix it for £15 straight away but they have no spare phones should it go wrong. I agree to return the next day but no one would be there then to assist. I take an afternoon off the following day and it turns out they don't have the new glass. Again there's no spare phones so they say come in next Monday when there is more chance.

I go in this afternoon the engineer is away so they say hold on to the phone until Saturday. They want me to go then. Even if I do go in they may have to send it off for at least three days if they don't have the part. A further delay.

CPW on Twitter and on the phone offer no apologies for this. This week my phone hits 6 months old and I fear the delays put my rights at risk.

I've got a better question...
Why the hell are they called Carphone warehouse??
Do they sell any actual car phones? No.
Are they a warehouse? No.
Stupid name!!!

It's like New Scotland yard.
So called because it's not new, it's not in Scotland and it's not a yard!
Hahahahahahahahahaha

You have a two year manufacturer's warranty (although if the mark is physical damage it's void but a fix will put it back in providing it's done by a Samsung engineer) so you won't have any problems in terms of warranty rights. Although if you have insurance they should cover it within the period.

Note that in many countries they're known as "The Phone House".

I'd prefer it if the stores were actual warehouses - I would then at least know that the cost of the phones they are selling were not inflated by paying for all the fancy glass decor in the stores.

They have several online subsidiaries that sell only direct from warehouses if you're that desperate.

Samsung told me they'd charge a lot more than £15, and would take longer to fix. Hmm.

Samsung shouldn't be charging you anything. It's a new phone under warranty is it not?

in 2 minds about this sort of things.

amazon usually cheap, but they dont employ many people in the uk, as they based offshore and also lots of tax avoidance.

buying from a uk based retailer, you keeping the guys and girls in the store in a job, council gets tax revenue, government gets more tax at least from the income/ni from those working on location although the company head office may still be off shore. Problem is prices tend to be inflated as have much higher margins to pay for all this stuff.

I have the opposite view and although I would prefer to shop in town the local council don’t want me to go there in my car and if I do, they will stick a parking ticket on my car while I’m in the shop.

So Amazon gets my money and the local council get nought then moan about all the shops in town that are boarded up.

That said, I did buy a Moto G in a local shop last week but only because they had a free car park and the Moto G was more expensive at Amazon.

Not if they find accidental physical damage.

Was it an independent shop and how much did you pay for your Moto G ? I'd like to treat myself to one for Xmas but the only shop online that I found so far is Amazon with the best price.
