I heard her single "I Hope" on the TV last week. It confirmed to me that I hate modern pop - boring, monotonous, lacking in any melody whatsoever. I have to say, though, that I thought she had a great voice. I thought it was a shame it wasn't in the service of a good song.
i found the the song to be very disappointing for the same reasons, 'I hope' there are some better tunes on the album

Edit: the Album will defo go Top 10.. her Album has always done better than her singles

Hopefully it will go platinum thanks to all the tv appearances she's been doing. The problem is that she's had no support from radio.
It's interesting that the record company, with all its money, can get her TV appearances but can't get her on radio playlists.

Unfortunately, it's the tradition that the best single is released to sell the album, then the poorer tracks are either released as singles subsequently or left on the album.

Well actually, they release the most commercially viable song as lead single, which isn't always the best track on the album...

Best single - most commercially viable - means the same thing to me. A single serves a different purpose from an album track. I can think of a few albums where the main single wasn't the best track, but if "I Hope" is the best single it isn't promising for sales of the album. I don't see that as becoming a classic.

Songs like Bohemian Rhapsody and Wuthering Heights bucked the idea that you need the most commercially viable single to release first - in both cases the record companies didn't want those released and both have become considered classics in retrospect. I don't think "I Hope" has what it takes - no wonder it's not been played.

Well that's the thing, there's no magic formula for a song which says it's going to be a massive hit. So often I guess they just go with the song that is the most catchy. But then everyone will have a personal favourite track on the album and for me at least my favourite track on the album is rarely the lead single.
