help needed with wii
Hello I am wondering whether you might be able to help me with a technical question? Im not sure if I have come through to the right place or not so please let me know if not.
I have a Panasonic TV and we have a Nintendo Wii attached to it. For some strange reason the WII has gone black and white only. All colour has been lost. I have checked the cables at the back and I have even rebooted the wii but it is still just black and white? I have checked to ensure it is on the correct AV channel and it is showing on AV2 with -S-Video quoted after it. Im wondering whether my son has pressed a button in error at all? If my memory serves me correctly I don't remember whether the " -S-Video" bit was quoted when it was working ok last week. I have tried so many different things and I just cant get it to work. Would you know what else I can do to fix this problem? Many thanks, Donna Marshall |

Change the TV settings to AV2-CVBS (or it may say Composite, PAL, Video or nothing at all)
S-Video needs two separate circuits, one for the black & white component and one for the colour component. SCART sockets were never designed to carry S-Video originally so they "borrow" two other video circuits, one that is normally for Composite video and one from the RGB video mode. It just so happens that the borrowed Composite video circuit is used for the black & white component. Hence why if the source (the Wii in this case) is set to Composite output and the TV set to S-Video the pictures are black and white. Set the TV to Composite (or CVBS or PAL which are the same thing) and that should restore the colour. |

That's like saying all cars are Fords. PAL is a specific standard whereas CVBS is a generic term. |
