A full guide to IOS 7

I updated my iPad mini to IOS7 last week, and I'm getting fed up with googling to find out how things work.

The latest being how to move between video, photo and square in Camera. Despite there being an obvious button to the left of each name, you actually 'swipe' the page up or down.

Before that, it was how to get rid of the stupid icons on the first page of Safari. Must admit, that led me to 'Favourites', so I now have my chosen icons on there.

And before that, why I'd lost Google Maps. It turned out that folders now only display 9 appas per page - GM was on page 2.

Each of these has caused me to spend hours googling and reading the results. Lots of useful other things came up, of course.

A friend of mine has an iPhone - when she updated that, it took her three days to find out how to make a phone call.

But is there a single location with a list of everything which has changed?

While I'm not a major fan of iOS 7, anyone who takes 3 days to figure out how to make a phone call on it really can't be that bright, can they ..... ?

Not that much has really changed in iOS 7 aside from turning the 4S into a laggy, unreliable thing.

Yeah most of it is exactly the same, the buttons just look different. How to make a call hasn't changed.

There are a few iOS7 apps you can download or typing 'iOS7 guide' in to google hits this
http://iosguides.net/ios-7/ or there are numerous things on youtube.

She's bright enough; I think being about 85 is the limiting factor. But she's a major fan of technology, buys most new things as they come out. So she has a few other phones she can make calls on...

Here's a couple of "guides" from Apple:

iPad http://help.apple.com/ipad/7/#/

iPhone User Guide:

http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/

iPhone Quick Start:

http://help.apple.com/iosquickstart/iphone/7/

I've bookmarked mine in Safari so I can reference them quickly

It has and it's shit and neither of the 2 updates I've done so far have changed anything.

What a crock.

This will be my 2nd and last iPhone - next upgrade I'm getting a Samsung Galaxy and I don't really care which one.

Thanks for the links; I've put them all into my Bookmarks, to read later.

Who's to say Samsung won't have made a laggy iOS 7 inspired skin for Android by then? Bit stuck. I myself have had no problems with iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 or iPad 4. However my friend has an iPad 3 and it's quite laggy when using gestures.

Well as someone who went from having a fully responsive, fast, very nice indeed thank you iPhone 4S, to someone who now owns a laggy, annoying, bug-ridden, upgraded to iOS7 piece of junk, I have to confess to being massively unimpressed

It's gotten so bad now, the home screen pages freeze when I'm scrolling

iOS 7 does seem to struggle on some of the older devices. Although you can tweak it to alleviate some of the symptoms. Such as turning off some of the background stuff and toning down the graphics.

I was experiencing similar with a 2012 Nexus 7. It was dead fast when it first came out. A couple of Jellybean updates later and it started showing signs of sluggishness. Even totally wiped with a bear minimum of apps installed on it. Again you could tweak the settings to improve things quite a bit. Interestingly though KitKat started reversing the trend and it seems a bit better now.

Seems a bit of a joke though psionic, to think that you're 'upgrading' your device, only to make it considerably worse than before doing so.

Progress eh?

It can kiss my butt

My other half has my old 4S and has updated to iOS7 and said it's not got any issues.

Have you tried a full reset of the phone and then reloading your apps, music etc from a backup?

One colleague recently had her 4S wiped and had everything reinstalled, it still runs badly with barely any applications installed. And I've seen enough commentary to suggest that the experience of the few of us at work do not count as isolated cases.

- uploading from gallery to facebook. Wait a minute after clicking the upload option.
- calendar, opening an invite. Click. Wait. Wait. Wait.

It'll depend on what you're doing, but I've found the gallery, camera and calendar to be a major step backwards. I've got all the visual elements turned off/down/whatever.

iOS 7 is pushing the 4S hardware just a little too hard, which to be honest is a little pathetic when to all intents and purposes its just a skin when a re-write was not required.
