Rebrand ! No need, everybody except pedants and marketing minded geeks, call it BBC 1, including the Radio Times.

If they want to call it BBC ONE in on screen idents etc, that's up to the Beeb, but everyone else in the real world writes and types it 1, don't they ?

And as pointed out the satellite labels use '1'

It was stated in the original post.

“The aim is to help viewers who can receive multiple versions of BBC ONE”

So if someone receives several transmitters from different regions, this helps to identify for them which is which.
It will be interesting to see if many here actually do find it useful.

Well it does also make it clear where to find regional programming - as opposed to BBC One HD & BBC One +1 which don't / won't have it.

Ridge Hill showing BBC 1 W Mids...shame, I hoped it was a precursor to them adding BBC West to go with the ITV West and West Mids we already get on freeview!

Well yes it is a useful feature for DXing lol as it saves looking at the program guide to see which region it is.

It's been reported on another forum that Oxford has "OXF"

My Sagem 67250 PVR made a right mess of this, with BBC channels assigned numbers in the 800s. Fortunately I could use a favourites list to get a sensible channel list, but I've lost use of the standard LCNs.

Channel Islands would be another one I'd be interested to hear, though BBC ONE CI seems obvious.

There's 18 variants in total on DSat including Scotland, NI and Wales. So CI + 14 English, with the caveat that the Isle of Man isn't English but is covered by BBC ONE NWest.

This must be in response to the launch of local TV

I did think that a possibility - trying to emphasise that they broadcast local programming. But as to why the BBC should be frightened into action by shoestring local TV programming is not obvious.

BBC ONE is regional, not local. Licence fee money has gone into setting up the transmission infrastructure for local TV and the BBC is committed to paying for content from local TV channels, so I don't think this is an issue.
However, the BBC seem to be doing some wider housekeeping regarding their channel portfolio, including moving BBC ONE NI HD to 101 on Sky HD and working at launching HD versions of all but BBC Parliament and I think improving the signposting of the regional versions on Freeview in England is part of the overall scheme, coming on a day when other major additions to the platform have been made.

It's long overdue in my opinion. I've got BBC One Yorks on 1 (from Emley Moor) and BBC One NE&C on 800 (from Bilsdale). I never thought for a minute I was the only one with multiple BBC Ones.

Yes ! Of course about 18 months ago, ITV dropped the regional names on their IDs, which makes working out
which region is which on satellite manual tunes, rather tricky !

When did they start using this?

It never used to say the bit about Sky, Freesat and Virgin Media and then the bit underneath about Freeview and YouView.

I only noticed it for the first time yesterday.

Originally it did not mention platforms, just channel 1/101. When HD moved to 101 on Freeview it was realised that the message had to be clearer.

Oh yes, I think you're right, it just said 1/101 ?

Anyway, I think it's high time you removed the protective tape from your bezel
