LCN 74 - CBeebies HD
LCN 106 - BBC FOUR HD
LCN 107 - BBC NEWS HD

They have an MHEG graphic in place showing a list of 5 new HD BBC channels.

Note it isn't the same MHEG as for BBC THREE HD - that still only has two channels on its list*.

*edit- this makes sense since only COM7 locations will get these extra 3 LCNs.

It has actually been a right palaver to get my two STBHDIS2010 boxes to add these placeholders. A simple rescan of the mux resulted in an entirely different mux being scanned and Al Jazeera HD being deleted. After multiple rescans, deletion of superfluous channels, manual scans, powering off and goodness knows what I have finally got everything on both boxes. I don't know whether some sort of channel limit is being hit.

I only tuned COM 7 last night on my STBHDIS2010 and the BBC 3 105 AND Aljazeer 108 was there but BBC 4 106 and BBC News 107 have appeared today with no extra retuning necessary.

I only have Winter Hill muxes tuned on this box.

Not only that, Al Jazeera English HD is transmitting and simulcasting its SD version.

It has had its own thread for quite a while now: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...0&goto=newpost

Well done, maybe I should have just left it to sort itself out. I have found it very hit and miss whether these boxes add channels automatically; mine have occasionally but not consistently.

I have noticed my box comes out of standby at 01:00 with TUNE in the display so I presume it's checking for updates.

Sometimes when I switch the box on it says (new services added) so it seems it does automatically update when something has changed.

I find with the IS you generally have to tune to a channel in the same mux for it to pick up changes to that mux.

It may depend where you are- there are only four[1] transmitters gone live today, try putting your postcode into http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/coveragechecker/ tick the "detailed view" box and it should show you when/if COM7 will appear for you. Not everywhere will get it.

[1] assuming Black Hill is live - anyone?

What a strange policy of not placing HD News channels in the News section of the EPG?!

The original plan was to have both HD news and children's channels in their respective sections. This was changed...IIRC Sky didn't like it.

And Al Jazeera along with Arqiva agreed in the recent consultation that there should be an "HD destination" on the EPG.

Had news moved to LCN 131+, then BBC News HD and Al Jazeera Eng HD would have appeared before the SD variants in the EPG. With today's move of itv3+1 down to 34, the trigger to move news and children's channels moves further away.
(for those who don't know, the trigger is when LCN65 is allocated)

I note from the Digital UK industry website, that the term "MHEG slate" is being used with reference for these channels rather than the term "placeholder", as traditionally used here. Placeholder seems more explanatory as to the purpose of the coming soon screens, but "MHEG slate" is technically accurate.

I hope the news channel gets the full countdown on launch, be nice to see it in HD instead of seeing part of it on BBC1 HD overnight.

My bt youview box told me this morning of the installation of new Channels and install them but I had to scan my hd tv to find the new channels ( other tv & boxes to do later )...
So another few weeks of testing like the last move and then maybe the BBC may start up the new HD channels ?
BBC has also added the prefix of regional so adding Lon to BBC One ...
there was also a new text service that come online today too...

Does anyone know when the channels will come on air ?
does anyone know if places on EPG of Freesat, BskyB and Virgin have been testing yet for these new HD channels ?

Yes, in regards to SD services, it is moving away from the trigger of allocating LCN 65. The City DTT slots would occupy LCN 63 and 64 now, and there is still LCN 48, 54, and 57 to allocate too.

In regards to free SD capacity on the COM4, 5 and 6 muxes (from longest to shortest):

24 hours - 13th stream on COM5/ARQ A (previously 302)

07:00 - 00:00 (timesharing with Adult Party) - 12th stream on COM5/ARQ A

22:00 - 08:00 (timesharing with QVC Beauty) - 12th stream on COM6/ARQ B

03:00 - 07:00 (timesharing with Dave) on COM5/ARQ A

04:45 - 08:00 (timesharing with Rocks & Co and Adult BSX) - 13th stream on COM6/ARQ B
Not likely to be acquired by another provider other than Channel 5:

04:00 - 06:00 two streams timesharing with 5USA and 5* on COM4/SDN

Timesharing with 5Later when launched alongside Marketplace on COM4/SDN
Not likely to be acquired by another provider other than UKTV:

06:00 - 08:00 timesharing with Really, Adult Blue, Adult Babestation2 on COM5/ARQ
so LCN 65 may be allocated in 2014.

Spare HD capacity on COM 7 & 8:
two, 24 hour HD streams on COM 7
five, 24 hour HD streams on COM 8

allocating up to and including LCN 115 (excluding the fact that children's and adult channels can be allocated elsewhere)

Someone last night in another forum reported a blank carrier for Mux 7, and nothing yet for Mux 8

Anyone with a Vestel clone may have problems tuning any channels in on Com7.
My Akura AVX665 (firmware 2.44UK) does not find the correct labels and results in loss of ALL HD channels if an new intstallation with auto scan is attempted.
I can only advise you contact the BBC and the receiver manufacturer if you encounter the same.

This was all decided by OfCom earlier this year after a consultation. The outcome was that the only genres to stay outside the HD genre (101-120) should be adult channels, which would be allocated to the adult section, and children's channels. This was to create a "walled garden" for that genre as a form of child protection.

In addition they decided that the LCNs should be allocated on a "first come, first served" basis. That's why 105 has not been reserved in case Dirty Desmond ever gets out of the clutches of Murdoch and makes Five HD available FTA.

By pure serendipity, the BBC's application mean BBC News HD and Al Jazeera HD will be together. Of course Sky could add their News HD channel and if they were quick it would make a sort of "mini genre" within the HD sequence.

I think any chances of C5 appearing on any FTA platform now are pretty much zero. He's thrown his toys out of the pram at the allocation of LCN 105 I reckon, serves him right for p*ssing the BBC and Ofcom around so many times!

If/when Five HD does launch it'll probably coincide with News HD channels moving to the 'News' genre, and BBC Three & Four HD moving down one place to 106 & 107 respectively.
