I got the EPG update and now have the extra channels from 401 onwards, which is good. My only issue is that the order of the channels makes no sense what so ever. Was there any particular reason they could not have been left in the same order as on the Talk Talk Player?

Does this mean we can record them soon I wonder.

It seems that the BT boxes can record now. They are Humax, of course. The Huawei boxes usually take a bit longer to update, but hopefully it is imminent.

I agree with you on the numbering.

Did you notice any other improvements in the way your box performs?

The numbering is set by YouView to provide LCN continuity between TalkTalk and BT. The IPTV LCNs have been split into sub genres similar to the main Freeview table.

I disagree, on my box it seems they have been put onto EPG based on who owns them. Eg Sky, Discovery, UKTV etc.

Sub genres would be a significant improvement.

As for other improvements to the box, it seems to me to be a touch faster, which is welcome

It has definitely been arranged in sub genres:

401-499: General Entertainment
501-529: Sport
530-554: Films
555-569: Children’s
570-579: News
580-589: Adult
590-600: Radio

Source: https://industry.youview.com/resourc...07.08.2013.pdf (Section 5)

However, it is also true for the most part that channels have been arranged in families.
By 5.28 of the above document:
If several channels from the same provider are allocated to the same genre block at the same time and are associated with each other as a channel “family”, for instance a suite of sport or film channels, then subject to LCN availability these channels will be kept together. Channels will be considered to be associated to each other where they are under common control or ownership and where there is common branding and/or significant cross-promotion between the channels.

OH I see.
You would have thought a wee "documentary" genre would have fitted in quite well.
It's not the end of the world obviously, and I am sure the present Mrs Jester will soon memorise her favourite channel numbers

Had to manually set up the update, but it did it eventually. Can now see IPTV channels in the main EPG as well as in the TalkTalk player, but they cannot be paused/rewound in the EPG, only in the TalkTalk player. They can't be recorded in either. Long lag on channel change. Remote still slow and unresponsive. Huawei box.

Also we are missing the broadcast of the Freeview channels also through IPTV, which the old Tiscali TV service had, enabling more multi-record options (plus Tiscali also had pausing/rewinding/recording of everything and you used to get Sky basic channels, Comedy Central, Comedy Central Extra and Fox at no extra cost to the basic package price - those were the days!). I don't know if we'll ever get this functionality with TalkTalk.

I hope the HD channels will be simulcast via IPTV. I'm disappointed that from Sudbury I won't receive the new HD channels such as BBC News, BBC4 and Al Jazeera on DTT.

The HD channels available on Talktalk is pretty much nonexistent which is very poor in 2013.

I suppose it depends on your perception, and tolerance, of a lag in response. When the box accesses an Internet channel, I imagine it is rather like your computer accessing a website. It often takes a few seconds for it to load, and that is likely to vary according to the speed of your broadband connection. My own connection runs at a pretty consistent 11-12Mbps and the Internet channels usually appear within about five seconds of being selected. I think that is acceptable, but others may disagree. Five seconds can be a surprisingly long time when you are waiting for something.

The Huawei box is not the fastest PVR in the world, but I would disagree that it is mind-numbingly slow, as some people on these forums have suggested. Again, it is a question of individual perception. I have read that TalkTalk are testing a new Huawei box, which is rumoured to be significantly quicker. Whether we all get one of those free of charge is anybody's guess, but I doubt it unless our existing boxes unexpectedly give up the ghost.

Instead, I content myself with its strengths, which are excellent picture and sound, both broadcast and Iptv; Internet channels are now much more stable than they were when the service launched; the latest software seems to remove several bottlenecks in the system, making it slicker than it was (although not yet fast) and there is a fair selection of HD material available in TalkTalk Box Office. The Internet channels will become recordable before too much longer (they already are on the BT boxes) and there is now the facility to add loads more HD material as it becomes available. This is a developing service and I think it is developing well.

I too have had TalkTalk's subscription channels added to the main EPG this week. I currently have the Entertainment Extra and Sky Movies boosts, and it certainly makes switching from a regular Freeview channel to an internet channel, and vice versa, much simpler.

But not all the linear internet channels are on the EPG. I didn't expect the on-demand channels, but why aren't the non-MTV music channels (Kiss, Magic, Kerrang etc) in the EPG?

I trial the new box and software and yes the new box is much faster. the music channels were available on the main EPG until earlier this week, no one really knows why but my guess its got something to do with the none MTV channels been available via the red button on 4Music for free. it was announced that the Connect channels will start working on YouView boxes early next year along with recording IPTV channels.

I now have all the extra channels available on the programme guide. It took me ages to hide them all

As a matter of interest, is that the model designated DN372T (rather than 370) or the single tuner, no hard drive DN360T?

When I press the EPG button the guide now takes longer than ever to load, to the extent that it's now getting seriously annoying.

Could it be because every time I scroll down, it is hiding the 100 or so channels that I have hidden? I assumed that by getting rid of all the crap it would make it quicker, but I'm now wondering if I was wrong. I get the feeling that this entire device has been very poorly programmed.

'Tis true. I unhid all the channels and the guide now loads very much quicker - almost instantly in the current time frame. The trouble is that I now have to scroll through all those crap dating channels, most of the radio channels and all the TalkTalk/Sky stuff that I will never watch.

There are two little buttons at the bottom of the handset that enable you to jump to the next (or previous) screenful. You don't have to scroll.

Really? I'll have to look for that.

No, the two direction arrows at the bottom right corner. And guess what? Against every convention, they made the left-pointing one the one you press to go forwards and the right-pointing one to go back. I really don't know whether to laugh or cry.

You're quite right. It's a bit murky at the end of the room where I sit watching the TV so I couldn't see them properly. They do have up and down arrows on them, but it just seems logical to me to have the down arrow on the right. or is it just me?
