Paso Doble - Fairytale of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty McColl (being most-modern and doing an Irish Paso !!)
Jive - Foot Tapper by The Shadows
Foxtrot - Woke up this morning (Sopranos Theme)
Charleston- We both reached for the gun (Chicago)”

I'm loving the Pogues choice, I love Kirsty, its the anniversary of her death in a couple of weeks, think we should have an entire virtual show to celebrate her - what can I dance to with "In these Shoes"?

Brilliant thread!

I'm not a dancer and don't know much about music, so I'd have to rely on Dave Arch and his wonderful orchestra to make these possible!

VW - Everybody Hurts by REM (must include the tempo change)

Waltz - How? by Regina Spector

QuickStep - Goody Two Shoes by Adam Ant

Foxtrot - Hello Dolly - By Louis Armstrong

Rumba - Jealous Guy - Roxy Music

Jive - Bad Things (True Blood Theme) - Jace Everett

American Smooth - Swinging On A Star - Bing Crosbie

Tango - Take That Look Off Your Face - Marti Webb

Puttin on the Ritz for Charleston

Rock around the Clock for Jive

Cavatina theme from The Deer Hunter for Waltz

The Skaters Waltz for Viennese Waltz

Can't think of any others at the mo

Might start thinking about my show-dance if I can get through with my dodgy frame and messy party latin

Your Paso sounds a bit difficult I wonder whether you can do a Paso to Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode?

Loved the pro dance to Ballroom Blitz the other week! I thought about a couple of Carpenters songs too.

I'd like to know that too! I cheated a bit by looking through all the music on my laptop for ideas and then just imagined watching the dances on the show! Couldn't find any ideas for the Salsa or the Samba

Maybe you could start going through the content in these three threads

Strictly Salsa

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1763494

Strictly Argentine Tango

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1763697

Strictly Viennese Waltz

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1765049

Perhaps others will be inspired to come up with similar threads for their favourite dances.

Tell me - do you also hear music in places like shops, and think, "That would make a great .. [fill in appropriate dance]"?

I hope Sofakat doesn't drop in on this thread because these will make her want to cry. I quite like dancing Argentine Tango to old jazz artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong et al. I think my liking is to do with the phrasing. Also to some Spanish classical guitar pieces.

I also did an Argentine Tango recently to Cymbaline by Pink Floyd. Hardly an SCD winner though.

Groovy

I'll sit that one out ...

This would work on Tango as opposed to AT

ella fitzgerald - hernando's hideaway

http://youtu.be/Cn94wt2CK_o

Nat King Cole - A Media Luz

[I love him but I can't stop laughing at Nat's appalling Spanish pronunciation and can't help myself singing along in a Nat accent. He really should have got some help him]

http://youtu.be/UrgdsbU2J3U

El Choclo (Kiss of Fire) - Nat King Cole

http://youtu.be/0zQn8iVEx18

NAT KING COLE - El Bodeguero - 1950s Cha Cha

Some awesome songs on this thread!

(I'm a big Dolly Parton fan too, and I love the Carpenters and Louis Armstrong and Ella too)

I've never thought about it but some that spring to mind

Quickstep - Slim Gallard, Communications http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=teaxWYRH9A4&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DteaxWYRH9A4

Foxtrot, controversial but this: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-JQTUgLh6mc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D-JQTUgLh6mc

Charleston - something manouche, but as it's prime time, I'm
accept a frivolous cover version, like this one - Thr Lost Fingers, Billie Jean http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wjz8Jw9F1kI

American Smooth - Sidney Bechet, Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives to Me http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L6MNx_WvY4E&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DL6MNx_WvY4E

Rumba - Carpenters, Superstar http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F9Nm_0pC4FM&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DF9Nm_0pC4FM

wow! So much stuff to answer since I went to bed and have a look at and homework to do! You tube's gonna be busy!

In terms of how I worked out which songs fit which dance, I didn't really know either. I just looked up some dance lists for various dances to see if I liked the songs suggested, then I noticed that they all had quite similar BPM (beats per minute) so then I started looking for the BPM for the songs I liked, but it wasn't an exact science at all and I just guessed, like someone said earlier "it sounded a bit swingy and right".

and Henry pointed out loads for me to look at too!
