Yeap, it is pretty good. There is already a review up on Eye on-Demand, for those who are interested in the Now TV or Roku box (including bitrate test results), and there are of course also reviews for Demand 5 & iPlayer on those boxes as well (not to mention Now TV itself, and great services like USTVNow).

For those outside the UK, I can confirm that 4oD on the Now TV box is configured to work through Overplay's Smart DNS already. I had no problems playing back their content.

The Now TV box is really one of the most interesting boxes on the market today for UK catch-up. It is so cheap, it may as well be free and although I quite like Sky's Now TV Entertainment Pass, there is no need to actually subscribe to Sky to use this box for the free stuff.

^^ 4oD is also on HD (or near-HD) via the Samsung Smart TVs or Blu-Ray players. Which is pretty nice - like you say, on selected content only.

4OD is a good addition. You have to wonder what else will be added in the future.

I bought one of these last week and got it on Saturday, basically so I could have a media streamer for only £10 (by installing Plex on to it).
I only wish it was possible to use Sky Go on it too, but there isn't even a Roku app let alone on available the Now TV branded box.

I won't be using it for Now TV at all though, as I personally think the Now TV service is a rip-off, and I already have Sky.

Im in the same posistion Gary, i purchased the Roku 2 XS on Tuesday also mainly as a media streamer too, ive not installed Plex yet because all my movies are on my external hard drive and am i right in thinking you need to keep your PC on all the time for that to work. With regards to netflix is there anyway you know at what quality it is streaming at i have pressed every button on the Roku but doesnt seem to be an option. I have it set to best quality in the Netflix settings on my profile.

That's good to know - just got a box for a mate of mine. ITV Player would make the box near perfect for the price.

You do need to have your computer on when you want to use it yes.

I'm having a problem with Plex though, I have had a problem with my computer that my Wireless adapter needs resetting often (a problem that is common but there doesn't seem to be a fix) and do this stops the connection between the two and I need to restart the computer to get it to work again.

Thats a problem you see i have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop must be 5 years now and it does need charging on a regular basis Great laptop when i got it but the battery power is awful. A shame because if i could have had the option to have the laptop off would have been great. Will stick to my external device. Sounds like you maybe need to purchase a new Wireless Adapter i have one its a Netgear NWA1300 and not has a problem with it.

^^ Perfect solution for when you buy a new laptop. Keep the old one and upcycle it as a media server. Have it permanently plugged into the mains, always on and with the screen always off. It will drain very little power, be silent, but work as a Plex server when you need it.

Absolutely perfect. You can even hide it behind some shelves or cupboards to save space as it's probably thin enough.

Just gotta save up for a new laptop now.

ovbg i should have stated i do use a macbook the old Toshiba one is basically never used except for my photos and films stored on there. If i have it plugged it into the mains as you stated with the Charger the electric bill would be big. As i said to Gary the ideal situation would have been for plex to work when with the laptop off.

The battery is an issue on mine now too, I have already had to buy a new battery for it, and I aren't going to pay to buy a new one now.

I did look into the problem a couple of years ago, but couldn't find any fix. So I just put up with it. Not really a big problem when you are not streaming media.

Although now I have found other Wireless Cards that are compatible with my laptop so I am going to get one to see if that sorts it out.

I have a Sumvision Micro Media player to watch programmes and movies on but that only plays certain media types though, so it is restrictive on what I can view on it.

Have you got the Plex media server installed on your computer?

I am only a novice on this so you will be better off asking for help on their help forums.

Is 4OD available on a standard Roku box? I have a Roku 1 and can't find the app in the store.

Very handy since 4oD stopped working on my RPi some time ago. Thanks for the heads-up.

I didn't think I'd use it much when I bought it but this little box is a bit of a gem.

It's ok, so long as you don't ever view any of the pay tv, they actually end up making a loss on the box.

They lose money on them, so I wouldn't worry about that

(edit: oops, just noticed Mickey_T said the same thing, missed that when I read down the thread)
