Press Release:

Quote:
“UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Nov. 26, 2013 — Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic has been tapped by NBC’s Emmy Award-winning musical competition series “The Voice” as the show’s first-ever in-house producer and songwriter.

Tedder, who was also an adviser this season, will work alongside the final three artists as they prepare for their respective performances for the finale. He will write an original song — stylized for each artist— that will be performed at the conclusion of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The single will be available on iTunes immediately following the telecast.

The announcement was made by Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment.

“Ryan is a brilliant songwriter and on the forefront of today’s music scene. His contributions to ‘The Voice’ will be invaluable in both his work with our artists and in creating a song that will capture the essence of our show,” said Telegdy.

Tedder is the founder and lead singer/songwriter of OneRepublic and producer of artists such as Adele, Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Maroon 5 and Carrie Underwood. He has sold over 130 million records worldwide and has held over 75 #1 chart positions across the globe. The six-time Grammy nominee took home his first Grammy for Album of the Year award at the 2012 Grammy Awards for his work on Adele’s ”21.”
OneRepublic took the world by storm in 2007 with their debut release “Dreaming Out Loud.” The album included the smash single “Apologize,” which shattered digital sales and airplay records worldwide. The band’s sophomore album, 2009’s “Waking Up,” produced three singles: “All the Right Moves,” “Secrets,” and “Good Life.” OneRepublic released their third studio album, “Native,” on March 26 where it debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The set includes hits “If I Lose Myself,” “Feel Again” and new single “Counting Stars,” which just broke into the top 10 at Top 40 radio this week.

The band has toured the world, headlining dates in the U.S. and Europe and opening for Bon Jovi and U2.”

The Voice UK need to do something like this. The 'cover' songs that Andrea Begley and Leanne Mitchell have released have been poor.

Tedder is an excellent songwriter. This is a good move by The Voice USA.

Surprised will.i.am hasn't produced a winner's single. He's a versatile producer.

Good god please never let that happen. His own music is bad enough. I do agree they need to get a songwriter in with some pedigree though. Who that person should be though I have no idea.

Someone like Cathy Dennis (behind a lot of Kylie's work, Katy Perry's breakthrough and Britney's "Toxic") knows how to write a chart friendly pop song, and would probably be able to write something capable of success for the winner.

This is a good idea. I think they should do something like that for The Voice UK instead of making them release covers.

will.i.am's recent stuff is questionable, but if he produced something like Big Girls Don't Cry, that would work as a winners single from one of these reality shows.

I suppose that's right actually. It's just that pretty much everything he's been involved with ( singing, producing, etc!) in the last 3 or 4 years has been quite simply put, some of the worst music ever to grace my delicate ears.
