A character has just up and left their job with no notice period, no issue with money, getting their life sorted, and it's starting to get annoying.

Chantelle - on a nurses wage - can just get on a bus and leave, without giving notice, not arranging a new job or place to live.

Chrissy - just walks out - and gives no notice, despite being a senior nurse.

Malick - performs a reckless procedure which injures a patient, gets his own son to take the blame. trashes the staff room, gets banned from the hospital and assaults a security guard. Yet Rick seems fine about it! He has a casual chat with Serena, who's not that fussed or concerned. Then walks off for a convenient teaching post in Sweden, with as luck would have it, an available job for his son.

The NHS seems an odd place.

PS Would a psychologist really not pick up on such a blatant wind up (ref strippers)

Whilst I'll miss Malick, I didn't like his final storyline, mostly because of the OTT nature of it like you say. It would have been better had Jake's life simply been put in danger a few weeks back, causing Malick to realise how much he loves his newly-found son and having new priorities as a result.

I don't think many characters have ever served their notice at Holby. Michael Spence had to do 3 months recently but that was only so he could change his mind and stay, which he did.

Holby City isn't known for its realism.

I've never been into an NHS hospital that is as sparkling clean and high tech as Holby for a start!

I am a huge Malick fan...yet last nights episode disappointed me a lot.

I simply didn't like the way he was portrayed. And as has already been said...they should have had a bigger build up to Malick and his son going off to Sweden.

I didn't like Karl (CS) as the new CEO...and its so obvious that he the *Guy* who has been texting that new pompous lady doc who thinks she knows better than everyone else.

So that will be the next big story...their affair!

Our new local NHS hospital...just one year old.... is sparkling clean and hi tech and has the added bonus of every patient in every ward having a private en-suite room. It's enormous though and the corridors are so long that the staff use those little stand on motorised things to move around.

ITA. Malick's last episode should have ended on a more positive note, one where he himself realized that he couldn't be a surgeon, or stay at Holby in his current condition. It all ended on such a sour note, and I felt Malick's development kind of stalled for this episode. The whole Sweden thing was so random, and usually Holby are much better at this.

I was so disappointed that Malick never got a proper goodbye scene with Rik, something that really showed how far their friendship, both professionally and personally had come. And where was Michael? He really should have been there. It was all too much of a negative ending for Malick, who deserved better.

After reading that interview with the new producer, I feel this was the first episode that implemented his changes to "spice" up the show, B/c apparently, viewer feedback said that they wanted the show to have more "spice", and this episode was more OTT dramatic than usual. Holby City has always been quite grounded, never too OTT, and I don't think the show needs an injection of "spice", just more interesting characters - it was fine how it was, IMO.

Not really a fan of John Michie; his characters always comes across as smug, IMO, and that last scene was so smug-ish. So, not liking that he's now joined the show. I am slightly intrigued at to what his connection to Zosia is, as she seems quite rattled. I really hope it is not an affair.

I can only imagine how hilarious that last part would be.

I think the show is quite realistic for the most part, like when they tackle hospital politics or treatments for illnesses and diseases, but characters never serving out their notices (or even giving any) is nothing new, however, they used to be better at disguising it.

I've been in a hospital that is sparkling clean (or at least the department I was in), but also ones that aren't. I've noticed it's the A&E departments that are usually not as clean as they should be. As for being high tech, how do you know the hospitals you've visited don't have departments that have high tech equipment?
