Have you noticed all 3 main soaps have a bench in memory of a passing character? Well I THINK so unless I'm remembering wrong - obviously there's Arthur's, but Corrie's Maxine and Emmerdale's Trisha have them too, don't they?

Wish they'd do something else! I think Trisha especially should have had something a bit more flamboyant than a bench

Brookie had a plaque on the shopping arcade, where Sue (?) and baby fell off the scaffolding (helped off the edge by Barry).

Trisha should have had an ornamental chimney erected in her honour.

*sings* what's she gonna look like with a chimney on her!

Oh you've just reminded me, aren't there pictures of Amos in the Woolpack? I know that's not a memorial of course, but it's a very nice touch I think. Especially since he is part of the show before it became more popular.

Nay nay Mr Wilkes!

Yeah, I think there are. Shame hardly anyone in the current cast would really know who he was!
Although, with all these new characters soaps keep introducing that were always here but you never saw them, Betty Eagleton and Tom King would probably have been in the Woolpack whilst he was there!

It's only Emmerdale that's done that a la Edna Birch.

Um, Eastenders has characters that were there before the show started and were never mentioned like Big Mo and Johnny Allen, plus Jack Dalton was supposed to have been in it all along but wasn't ever mentioned during Dirty Den's time!

Anyway, it's more likely in a village like Emmerdale that some characters aren't seen, remember there's another pub in the village with its own set of regulars! I assume Betty and Edna must have gone to the Malt Shovel all those years they lived there!

Where abouts is the Malt and Shovel in the village? I wouldn't have thought there'd be room for another pub.

It is quite strange that the village seems so small in that aerial shot in the opening credits, yet when the show was filmed on location, you got the impression you were only seeing part of a bigger community. It's probably on the Hotten Road. Everything else is!
