Some really, really strange choices there... most are not really ideal in terms of dancing. What is going on with the music department?

I think Mark, Susanna and Natalie have been shafted - only because I have never heard their songs - it always helps me if I know the song I know the movies, just not the songs

Agree, some very awkward choices. Only a couple that may work well, the rest are very what the heck.

Yes Mark has been set up for a fall by the plonker producers.

http://youtu.be/ywjX6AF6oVc?t=1m10s

I suspect that they have already written Craig's critique on the appalling music choice.

On those lines they needn't have gone further than "Rio" for a superb Samba.

Maybe I'll download their last dance and dub it with this music just to show.

"I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" is another "power ballad" which I think are totally unsuitable for dance.
As a song it's a "show stopper," and for one little girl, was a career maker.

Ten million hits on her performance.

It's more like kids' musical week and I agree that a few of them seem quite hard calls. Like the Saturday Night Fever salsa idea though and I'm glad Mark has got something really fun for his (last???) dance.

the tommy Steele version of good morning is a good quickstep but then again good morning is used widely for quickstep

you can hear a snippet here http://www.cduniverse.com/productinf...28&style=music

Well, I think Susanna will be OK - at least it's a song that was written for people to dance to. Not cartoon baby animals.

And what idiot had the whole catalogue of musicals songs you could do an AS to and thought what Natalie needs is something incredibly intense, joyless and overwrought that as far as I know isn't meant to be danced to at all? I mean, the AS is the perfect dance to have for musicals night, there are so many standards from the old school musicals that the main Strictly audience would have loved. I agree with Artem and Natalie having more modern unexpected song choices sometimes. But I think after the last couple of dances they need something warm and old fashioned that the audience could really out and out love. (Having said all that it is at least a pretty good song. And not, you know baby flipping cartoon animals...)

Patrick's song will appeal to people's nostalgia while still giving him a good chance of doing a good dance. Mark and Ashley's choices are just ugh.

I agree with you about power ballads as I think they overpower the dance. I thought that about them using the Whitney Houston cover of 'I will Always Love You' for Ashley & Ola's Waltz last week. (I much prefer the Dolly Parton original, and I'm saying that as someone who hates country music!) However, if anyone can - hopefully! - make a power ballad work for an AS, I think it might be Artem.

hmm, ok, thanks - not sure a power ballard is the "right" music for an AS but Im sure Artem will make it work

I agree!! Just what?! All I know of Natalie's song -'I tell you I'm not going', is that I think I remember Jim Carrey singing a joke version on a show years ago -!That's gonna be in my head!! Surely there are lots of beautiful songs from musicals that they could have for an American Smooth?
I guess the producers are scraping the barrel a bit for songs that haven't been done before on the show-?
As for the song for Mark's samba- OMG
I actually think Susanna's got a good one- anyone who's seen the film will remember it anyway. I like that song/ choice.
Abbey- Salsa to that??

Yes, I said a few days ago that "I Will Always Love You" was a power ballad and it did prove to be unsuitable and any singer would struggle with it.

It'll depend on the arrangement. I'm sure Dave Arch can make it "less in your face" and underneath it all there is a bit of a tune.
If we are doing "kids musicals" or similar.
I'd rather have this, it can have some great harmonies and wouldn't tax the singers. Any tune that's "danceable" and can bring a tear to your eye, has got to give the dancers a better chance of success. This has been covered by so many singers, in different ways but I still think this, the original is the best. Great orchestration.

I think with Sophie and Susanna both doing ballroom and Patrick having an easy point-scoring opportunity with the Charleston, Abbey could be in real trouble this week as I've really not rated her fast latin so far.

Thinking about it, though, this is usually the point where the pre-series favourite/DIRTY RINGAH first falls into the bottom two a la Jason or Denise...

Yes, I'd agree that Susanna, Sophie and Patrick have the songs mostly likely to work (given that we've no idea what's been pulled out of the dressing up box yet). It will be a big test of the popularity of Natalie, Ashley and Abbey as to who will be in the b2 with Mark.

Though however rubbish Natalie's song choice, I am sure she will do it very well and score very highly.

And you could argue that if you wanted to land in the b2 and frighten your fans into voting madly from now on, this week, against Mark, who is according to the papers asking to go home, is about as safe as it's possible to be.

Susanna's music is fine. Very bright & breezy for a QS and you dill know it when you hear it. I assume they have chosen Tommy Steele's version because the musical version has Debbie Reynolds, Donald O,Connor & Gene Kelly singing.

Mark will be great. He doesn't care what they give him as long as he enjoys it & their twitter feed is full of fun this week.

Hate Saturday night fever & not looking forward to the band trying to do Barry Gibbs

Don't know Natalie's

I am desperately disappointed in the musical choice for Natalie and Artem. I was totally convinced that they would get something beautiful and lyrical this time after a couple of ropey selections. I was so looking forward to a really lovely show stopping AS. Natalie's talent is being totally wasted.

OMG poor Abbey. Based on the music she will end up in the bottom two. She isn't very grounded at the best of times and her movements while lovely in many dances are rather balletic for salsa and then that track. she hasn't a prayer.

Except that the judges don't know a salsa from their elbows so with luck Aliaz will choreograph a Latin hustle throw in a bit of 'armography' and the judges will love it.

I asked why you would pick the Tommy Steele version - must be on another thread. You could be right though - three singers instead of one. Also it is Debbie Reynold's fabulous voice that makes the original so magical for me and Dave Arches wonderful singers no matter how wonderful will not be able to recreate Debbie's tone I suppose.
