It appears that Mr Walcott has now been suspended. If the college knew of this man's attitudes previously one must ask why it has taken so long.

There are rumours (a) that he isn't qualified for this particular post and (b) that his partner is the principal of the college. All very unsavoury stuff. It would appear that negligence in checking credentials is rife in this country - right up to the CEOs of large publicly-funded banks!!! (I know somebody who claimed to have a Masters Degree and has obtained a v. good post at a university. Half an hour's conversation with him - and a close look at his written work - would give you a pretty impressive hint that he's lying through his teeth. Go figure ...)

The principal has also been suspended (leave of absence) according to this article.

It looks as though this facility has been run as a personal fiefdom by the Principal and her co-horts. Latest news is that the college has been claiming fees for students who have not been attending college and yet passing exams - sometimes the same exam for three years running. The whole place is now under investigation.

Makes you wonder how widespread these sort of fraudulent practices are.

White vans apparently removing files from the college. Martin Tolhurst getting rid of the evidence before any independent investigation begins. Denise Brown was Tolhurst's protege. Every trick of the book she learned from Martin Tolhurst. EG £30,000 interest free loans to senior managers, employing / promoting friends. (some of whom are barely literate/numerate) Coaching and paying students (£8.50ph) to talk up the usefulness of their worthless certificates. How did Martin Tolhurst get his job as Principal of the college? What qualifications does he have? Or was it his "friend" Christine Freestone who wrote the job and person spec while they both worked for Newham Council? Was he rewarding her by appointing her Director of Human Resources and Legal Services on an extortionate salary. Union reps paid large sums of money to sign gagging clauses when they left. The college is rotten to the core. Should be investigated by a completely independent authority. The scandal of Newham College has been goingon for years.

I thought it said Newnham College, which is my wife's alma mater. That place should definitely be shut down.

Hopefully The college will be moved to the Stratford Olympic park when it's built to start afresh.
