Yes, I do think people are misjudging the situation. They haven't been away at a conference. The change to their normal lives is immense; the same applies to BB, where people always sneer at the tears letters from home elicit. Unless we have been in a foreign prison, few of us will have experienced being utterly out of touch with our families while being put through a lot of (benign in this case, but still) emotional pressure. IAC is a kind programme, kinder than CBB, but it is still full of uncertainty and insecurity. They are all frightened of public failure, of being disliked, of looking ridiculous; a week in such an intense environment feels like a month.

It's always a difficult choice for people with young families. But IAC is a short series - it's not like going into non-celeb BB, which may be 12 weeks or even more. And Alfonso may be in genuine financial difficulties, and see the show as a life-line.
