Shane Richie's ego must be taking a battering with Danny Dyers impending arrival and the fact that Alfie has been taken out of the Vic.

To me Shane is pretending to be happy when he talks about the Carters, larking around on the market etc.,

I don't know him personally but he is putting a great show of 'pretending' to be happy about his character change in fortunes while secretly he is not.

I think he's been more than gracious about it with his public support of the change. So what if he's only pretending. If it were the other way around, there would be a thread about what a huge ego he has for being upset about losing the Vic. It seems he can't win regardless of his reaction.

Of course he's disappointed, just as anyone else would be. Landlord/owner of the Vic is the most coveted position in the show. Any actor having that role taken from him/her would naturally be really disappointed. However, I think he's been entirely professional about the whole thing.

I've got an inkling he used to be married to Colleen Nolan, I think she might have mentioned it once or twice.

Good to have a nonsense thread once in a while!

Really? What gives you that idea?

Because she never, ever, ever mentions it.

I think Shane is one of the nicest EE cast members.

He is also too honest for his own good. He has actually said he wasn't happy to learn Alfie would lose the pub but as an actor he is looking forward to Alfie heading into the unknown.

Nothing about that strikes me as him being bitter or pretending to be happy about Danny Dyer joining. Believe it or not Danny is very popular in showbiz circles. Why else do you think there has been such a positive reaction to him joining EE?

Mmmm well before he hit the big time, if you can call it that, that is all he banged on about. He was on panel quiz shows and always brought up that he was married to a Nolan, she used to be the Butlin boy's claim to fame, I think she is entitled to throw his name around considering how many times he mentioned her.

Actually, he's stated himself that he's unhappy that he's being thrown out the pub, but admitted it will give Alfie more opportunities.

He quit last time he was taken out of it, didn't he? If only he did the same now.

Which is more than can be said for the actor replacing him as Vic landlord, who seems to believe he will singlehandedly increase the ratings to be once more above 'a soap which is about a farm'.

I have never seen any of Danny Dyer's films, so I have no idea about his level of talent. But it just seemed rather an arrogant way of describing his entrance to an ensemble continuing drama. And rather insulting to Emmerdale.

Appropriate surname then - I presume that's how he's referred to by his non-fans?!

PS. Started watching Emmerdale regularly again for the last few weeks. Even though things are supposed to be relatively quiet after Cameron's killing spree, I'm enjoying the quality of the other storylines, and it's also well-paced.

I rather liked Alfie out on the markets, as he was in his earlier days. It's certainly done Kat no harm.

Could not have put it better myself!

It's sad that Kat and Alfie lose the Vic but it's nice to have them back together and I did feel sorry for poor Roxy and there will be drama ahead but K and A always weather the storm.

Haha! I quite agree!

That mumbling he did in the church the other night in the scene with Roxy was nothing short of cringeworthy! And then followed the completely ridiculous scenes of moped stealing and airplane door banging (though to be fair, the writers are more to blame for this) Great Pretender is right!

I'm not Ritchie's biggest fan as the impression I get from interviews I read is that he does have a rather over inflated sense of his own talent and importance to both he and the Kat and Alfie relationship have to the success of the show. However, in this case I think he is behaving with grace and professionalism. Of course he was going to be disappointed a being moved from the Vic and nerwous about what that would mean for his character. He was honest about that. But he now appears to be concentrating on the positives, new direction for Alfie and the show with the injection of new blood. Whether that is genuine or him putting a brave face on for the sake of the show doesn't really matter - he is giving the impression of being a team player.

I think so I have seen him in a number of different things from his more serious stuff and his comedy parts and I think he is completely unnatural and wooden, he makes Vinnie Jones look RADA trained, Vinnie would have been a much better sign for the East End wide boy angle.

ED is amazing right now, I cannot fault it, I love the little filler scenes they have like Diane & Vic talking about the comments for the pub on tripadvisor They're not dramatic but they're necessary in a continuing drama, imo. I haven't seen any of this week as I'm working night shift so need to catch up Sunday

I get really annoyed when people on here go on about actors egos and how they are behind the screen and I don't just mean Shane. None of us know them personally so can't say whether or not they are pretending or faking how they feel about their soaps. Shane saying Alfie only belongs in the Vic is a rumour made up on this forum. Countless times he has said how he is committed to Eastenders in the long run and is happy with new storylines coming up for Alfie. It's no secret how much I like Shane/Alfie but people talking about any actors views which aren't confirmed isn't right. IMO.

I'm happy Alfie been kicked out of the Vic for a number for three reasons:
1. He is extremely annoying.
2. He's recently been acting as if his head's stuck up his a**e with the arrogancy towards Roxy and Ronnie.
3. He can't stay in that pub forever.

People have a right to say how an actor comes across to them in interviews. Often it is not what is said but how it is said. As in real life when you meet someone you can just have a 'feeling' about them, be it like, dislike etc. It doesn't mean you are right but you have a right to form an opinion.

The fact is that Ritchie has in the past made comments like 'everyone in the audience are rooting for Kat and Alfie to get back together'. 'the whole audience will be crying when Alfie tells Tommy he isn't his dad' and similar. Now I just don't think that is true as I at least don't want them together and wasn't moved by that scene and the fact he says that 'everyone' does, suggests to me that he thinks he and the storyline is a lot more important than it actually is to at least some of the audience.
